On the 4th of July he watched the fireworks with her family, their daughter sitting in his lap.
On Veterans Day he wore his uniform, politely smiling when people stopped and thanked him for his service.
But it was on February 27th that he went off by himself and didn't talk to anyone. That was the day his best friend in Persian Gulf War died. Just days before the war was over.
He had once told her that was the only thing he regretted about being in the service.
Not being able to save him.
