Mike shook his head, unable to speak. He almost relaxed when Connie put her hands on his shoulders. The situation seemed unbearable but he might get through it with her strength.
“Just talk to him, Mike. You’ll feel better then.”
“I can't go in there.” he whispered.
“Why?”
“I don’t want to see my father ailing.”
It was one of the sweetest things she’d ever heard. Connie gently nudged him toward the hospital room. Jack lie in bed recovering from a mild heart attack. He would recover fully but be out for a month.
“So,” Mike tried to smile. “There's a rumor circulating that you want me to sit in your chair.”
