New Year's Eve found the Major Case Squad working the crowd in Times Square. Someone had tipped the department that a lunatic with a bomb was intent on greeting the new year with a bang.
Eames and Goren mingled among the crowd, ostensibly no different from the other revelers. They found nothing suspicious.
At the stroke of midnight, as the glitter ball fell, they happened to bump into each other. Literally.
"Happy New Year, Bobby," Eames said.
"Hap...Happy New Year, Eames."
Impulsively, uncharacteristicly, they kissed.
The glitter ball sparkled.
