Title: Things I'll Always Remember
Flavor: Criminal Intent
Characters: Det. Mike Logan/Det. Carolyn Barek
Word Count: 98
Rating: PG
Summary: There are some things that he will always remember, even if he doesn't want to.
Author's Notes: Geez, it's been a while. Apparently, this challenge was too much for the muse to pass up. Go figure. In any case, this...is kind of AU. Fits into this ongoing fic that I'm still working on, but it also fit the challenge, so here it is. I don't own CI, obviously, but I'm quite sure you guys already know that. ; )
“What’s your worst memory?”
“Coming home.”
“No, really.”
“I mean it.” Trails off, sighs. “It was December. I’d just turned 17. There were two of the brass, on the front porch. Hats in their hands. That was always a bad sign.”
“Why?”
“It meant something had gone wrong.” Looks away. “Narcotics had asked my father’s unit to help them out with something.”
“Vice?”
“No. Homicide..” A low sigh. “December 10th, 1977.”
“Did he…”
A nod.
“Mike, I’m sorry. I should never have asked.”
“You couldn’t have known.” Gets to his feet. “Let’s just take this guy down, okay?”
