Alex and Bobby sat silently, not looking at each other, as the videotaped version of a dead woman continued monologuing at them. “…The fact that you’re watching this tape means something has happened to me, so…okay, here goes nothing.” The woman took a deep breath. “I want you to take custody of my baby when it’s born.”
Bobby stiffened and barely heard the rest of the tape. When it stopped, Alex turned to her partner, a little concerned. “Bobby?”
He repeated the tape’s message, as though still trying to absorb the shock. “Nicole Wallace wants me to have custody of her child.”
