Leslie Rampey and Recs Judicata (cross-posted elsewhere)

Aug 09, 2004 20:42

First things first:
  1. Leslie:

Many of you in the Law & Order community will remember an avid L & O fan and fanfic author named Leslie Rampey. She was friendly, funny, warm, extremely knowledgeable, a great writer, and touched us all in many ways. She passed away last year, and her loss was keenly felt.

Kitt and Kor, the owners of the apocrypha site, dedicated an online auction to her and raised $300, which was then donated to Leslie's college. This money went to pay for a set of bells in the college chapel, dedicated to her memory.

The members of Recs Judicata decided to put up a site dedicated to her memory. If you knew Leslie or know of her, go see

    http://celebrateleslie.0catch.com/

And if you're moved to do so, leave a comment - a memory about Leslie, a story of hers you liked, stuff like that.

If you didn't know Leslie, and would like to know what we're talking about... go to the site anyway. She was a wonderful person who deserves to be remembered, even by those who didn't know her :)

    And next...
  2. It's a bird, it's a plane, it's...Recs Judicata!

Yes, RJ has been updated! ::cheers:: Go see!

Because real life obligations and changing fandom interests continue to make their presence felt in our lives, RJ will no longer attempt to keep to a monthly update schedule, although we have *no plans* to abandon the rec'cing process altogether. (This isn't going to be that big of a change since we haven't been updating regularly for a while now, but we thought you should know.) In other words, there will be
recs, but they won't be as frequent.

We will, however, open up a site on lj where we can rec fics on an individual basis, (probably named recsjudicata). No big announcement trumpeting "go read 15 great stories!" but ongoing updates whenever we find stuff we like. And it won't always be L&O, by the way. It'll be whatever tickles our fancy.

Then, whenever there's a decent number of L&O recs on the lj site, we'll put them all into an RJ update and send out an announcement.

Also, because there is little chance of large sites disappearing wholesale into the ether, we will no longer be archiving fics that are available on public, stable, easily-accessible archives (e.g., fanfiction.net, silverlake, or livejournal community posts). We will continue to ask authors for permission to archive here where the fic is only available on a mailing list, a personal website, or an individual journal.

That is all. Have fun reading :)
