"Serena…" he began.
"Ms. Southerland," she corrected him curtly.
He paused and swallowed his annoyance. "Ms. Southerland," he corrected himself, "We both know how to bend the law in our favor, but ultimately, we also love and respect the law. So before we take our differences to a judge, maybe first we can find some common ground."
It was Serena’s turn to pause, considering all her obligations, considering all her feelings, before finally saying, "I’m listening."
