“Another poker game, Ed? What’s that, the third this week?” Briscoe took a bite of his corned beef on rye.
“Hey, I don’t talk about you and the ponies, so lay off.”
“Playing the ponies was a substitute for drinking, Ed. I’m reformed on both counts,” he said, dabbing mustard from the corner of his mouth.
“Yeah? What’re you addicted to now?”
Briscoe’s smile was wide. “Redheads.”
