Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

I seriously do not understand why this movie is not in wide release in the U.S. It is playing in two theaters in the D.C. area. I read the book and saw the Alec Guinness miniseries, so I was curious as to how the movie would distill such a sprawling story into 2 hours. They did change some stuff, cut out the parts of the story that didn't drive the plot, and streamlined a lot of the story, but it worked. At least it worked for me. Gary Oldman was simply marvelous as George Smiley. Benedict Cumberbatch was also very good. Mark Strong as Jim Prideaux did not have a lot of lines, but he conveyed so much without saying a word. And Tom Hardy, well, he was very convincing as Ricky Tarr. He is ridiculously beautiful, even with the dodgy wig. There was one scene where he was standing in profile wearing only a shirt and his legs were bare. I wanted the movie to freeze there. His thighs. Wow.

I hope more people get a chance to see the movie. I will definitely buy the DVD when it comes out. And not just to ogle Tom Hardy's thighs.

recs, hot brits, tom hardy
