Thank you, that's exactly what I was going for. He doesn't mean half the things he says, at least not that way, but doesn't really stop to think about how Rodney might take them. Miscommuniation is them. *g*
dealing with an issue that has been bothering me (and I lots of others I guess!) for some time - certainly since Trinity.
Yeah, well. It was my way of dealing with precisely that issue - I only chose Inferno because it's such a nice example of a not quite functional relationship (and I don't want to write any more Trinity tags).

Anyway. John's SHALLOW! He is like a little boy and so hyped over the used alien warship he never for one instant considers how anything he says or does might really affect Rodney. I found this frighteningly congruent with canon (aside from the sleeping with Rodney at the end and you could have cut that and the story would still work). I tend to want a more likable John in fic, but it really did work for this.
Tiny typo: glazes unstead of glances.

Yes, that's what I was going for. Like you said, it's basically (sadly) canon, and I wanted this to be something that actually could have happened on the show (okay, apart from the sleeping with Rodney bit - that was self-indulgence).

As do I. I love when he's dorky. *g* And I - hopefully - tend to write a more likeable John. ;)

Thanks a load for both of these and for satisfying my growing frustration at the interraction between the two characters, much as I love both of them and the show.
Take care *hugs* O. xx

And yes, that frustration thing seems to be contagious. :/
