Lovely resolution to the set up. I loved seeing this from both their POVs. To be honest, I wasn't sure what defence John could possibly have, but being a bit slow and dense worked well enough! *g*. In some ways he's a bit like a boy in the schoolyard, pulling the braids of the girl he likest best. He doesn't know how to interact on any other level than teasing Rodney, precisely because he likes him. And maybe he can't say anything like "thanks" because deep down he knows it'll come out mushy and reveal too much about his true feelings. This was a really great idea for a story - dealing with an issue that has been bothering me (and I lots of others I guess!) for some time - certainly since Trinity. So thank you very much!

Thank you, that's exactly what I was going for. He doesn't mean half the things he says, at least not that way, but doesn't really stop to think about how Rodney might take them. Miscommuniation is them. *g*

Yeah, well. It was my way of dealing with precisely that issue - I only chose Inferno because it's such a nice example of a not quite functional relationship (and I don't want to write any more Trinity tags).

I loved these stories! It's all about an actual imbalance in the show and I'm glad someone addressed it in such a moving and in character OMG piece(s)!

I don't know...You certainly made me see John's side, and even understand it, but aside from Zelenka, I wasn't convinced that Rodney still wasn't underappreciated in Atlantis. Frankly, Elizabeth does not come off well in this. (But, I should be honest and acknowledge I seldom like Elizabeth in the show and other fic for the same reasons and I tend to feel she takes John for granted as well...)

Anyway. John's SHALLOW! He is like a little boy and so hyped over the used alien warship he never for one instant considers how anything he says or does might really affect Rodney. I found this frighteningly congruent with canon (aside from the sleeping with Rodney at the end and you could have cut that and the story would still work). I tend to want a more likable John in fic, but it really did work for this.

Tiny typo: glazes unstead of glances.

John's SHALLOW!

Yes, that's what I was going for. Like you said, it's basically (sadly) canon, and I wanted this to be something that actually could have happened on the show (okay, apart from the sleeping with Rodney bit - that was self-indulgence).

I tend to want a more likable John in fic,

As do I. I love when he's dorky. *g* And I - hopefully - tend to write a more likeable John. ;)

Once again same as before... Thank-you so much. John's a twerp at best, especially with Rodney and I think there's precedent for the John you present here. I'd like to think he was a bit deeper and a bit more thoughtful but this John follows from what we see on the screen for me.

Thanks a load for both of these and for satisfying my growing frustration at the interraction between the two characters, much as I love both of them and the show.

Take care *hugs* O. xx

Thank you very much, again. :)

And yes, that frustration thing seems to be contagious. :/
