So we have this problem, and it's a pretty big problem.
By we I mean my family, and by problem I mean it's pretty noisy.
And at the same time so intriguing to me.
That's right ladies and gentlemen,
roof rats.
Technically they do not live ON the roof, they live directly beneath it. Crawl space, if you will. Anyway, when I refer to them running around imagine them above us, the inner workings of the home.
Now normally I'd write some post about myself, but instead I thought I would write one about the not-so welcome house guests. I am pretty sure they have been here for years, but as far as we can tell they have never been this noisy. This summer my dad put up a trap because we heard them a little bit and we caught at least two. Since then we have yet to catch any but they are skillfully working themselves onto the vents and scurrying around like they own the damned place. So I walk into the kitchen and just listen to them at night now. They just squeak and gnaw and scratch and run about. Fuckin' loons. One night last week I had walked into the kitchen to put a glass in the sink and less than 2 seconds after entering the room, a loud snap is heard and I see a piece of wood slam into the empty clean frying pan on the stove. WTF. So, judging that the fan is basically a huge vent that goes through the cabinet above it, I believe the rats are that much closer to sleeping with us. Srsly.
Just stand in my kitchen and you will understand.
