Chapter 12
Kai was in no mood to explain his whole life story to Jongdae, sure he felt bad, but the pain of reliving the whole thing was far worse than what he felt when he walked out on the rest of them. So there he was standing in the middle of the street he saw on tv, except on tv the street was full of people, police cars, ambulances, and now it was just empty with just the simple things that a crime scene should have. Yellow markings, orange cones covered the entire border of the simple house.
The street was unusually quiet, he figured the people around moved somewhere else temporarily, who would want to live in a place where a murder took place. He wondered if the street he lived in was like this too now. No, now was not the time to think of those things he thought as he shook his head and climbed over the yellow tape and walked towards the house. The weather was hot but not too much, he gently turned the knob of the door which had been left open and walked in.
It was definitely a more gruesome murder than what happened to him, Kai could see that. There was blood drops splattered everywhere, the sofa turned upside down, the living room was a mess. Not wanting to have any contact with the evidence, Kai teleported himself to the kitchen from where you could see the living room. He then walked to one of the bedrooms and found it to be the boy’s one.
Sehun.
His room was simple, one small bed, a small desk with a laptop placed on it and a cupboard. It was much more simpler than his room.
Where did you go? Kai thought to himself as he grabbed the laptop and stuffed it in his bag, the police could now also search about a burglary that took place in the house, he didn’t care. He left the room and walked back into the kitchen. The floor creaked as he walked past the fridge and for a second Kai thought he had been caught. He walked back and the floor creaked again. Immediately he pulled the carpet that was covering the floor and found the passage.
So that’s where they asked you to hide. Not wanting to alert the police about the secret cellar, he teleported himself inside there too. This place was not comfortable at all. He had to crouch down, and literally walk on his knees. He kept his eyes on the path in front of him, the light from his phone guiding him. He saw as he passed that the boy would have definitely been able to see his parents get murdered from one of the gaps in the wooden boards, and he prayed that the boy would have gotten away before he saw it. Because no one, no one deserved to see something like that.
Kai found himself outside in a matter of seconds, he had also found dried blood all along the path. So the boy had injured himself, whether it was those things, or just an injury when he had crawled inside that path, he had no idea. The path had led him to the backyard of the house, now Kai was lost. He had no idea where to go next, to find the boy. So he switched on the laptop, hoping to maybe try gain some information about any friends Sehun might have had that he could go to.
----
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”
“Hello to you too.”
“WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?! GET OUT OF MY HOUSE BEFORE I CALL THE POLICE.”
“Relax, I’m not going to hurt you. I’m here for Sehun.”
“SEE-SEHUN? WHO? WHAT? WHO IS SEHUN, I DON’T KNOW ANY SEHUN. NOW PLEASE LEAVE. MY DAD’S A POLICE OFFICER AND YOU ARE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE IF YOU GET CAUGHT.”
The boy leaning against the table smirked, “ First of all, your dad’s is definitely not a policeman, and second, you know Sehun, that’s why you both have pictures together.” He moved revealing the screen of the laptop where there was a picture of two boys smiling at the camera. The boy standing near the door, now began to shake as he slowly placed his hand on the door knob.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, you see I’m much more faster than you.” That only caused the boy to shake more as he quickly turned the knob and bolted out of the room.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”
“Will you quit screaming like a little girl?!”
“WHAT? HOW? WHO? WHAT?”
“Sorry? Didn’t catch your question.”
The other boy now shrank against the wall, as recognition dawned in his eyes. “ You are one of them.”
“Yeah, one of them good guys, not bad ones who killed Sehun’s parents.”
“So you aren’t going to kill me?”
“Not if you tell me what I need to know.”
“Are you going to hurt Sehun?”
“No, I’m going to help him.” The boy said with determined eyes, “Help me, help him.” The other boy nodded as he slowly got up from position on the floor.
“First, I need some water, my throat feels really raw.”
“No shit.”
-----
“So I have super powers?”
Luhan sighed and dragged his hand through his hair for the millionth time. He was fed up of answering the same question over and over again so he simply nodded his head.
“ME? I have super powers?”
“OH COME ON, THIS IS RIDICULOUS.”
Luhan raised his head up at Baekhyun surprised at the sudden outburst. The boy simply looked at Luhan bewildered as he shook his head at the shorter boy standing in front of them. Luhan got up from his seat and walked towards the boy, who stepped further away from him scared of what Luhan might do to him. When they had reached the wall, Luhan placed his hand on the shorter boy’s shoulder.
“Kyungsoo, look I know this is all hard to take in, but you haven’t even heard the full story yet. There’s more to come, and since the person who found you decided to just disappear tonight, I’m left to tell you about it. I need you to listen first, then I’ll answer your questions. Can you do that?” Luhan asked in his most calm tone, he knew this was a part of his power, being able to control emotions around him. He had kept Jongin calm and collected when he was about to have a go at Jongdae, and now he was controlling Kyungsoo from freaking out.
The boy nodded softly and slowly made his way to the sofa and settled down next to Jongdae who gave him a small smile. They had already established that they weren’t going to hurt him so he was fine with staying with them in the same room, so now it was time for the story.
Before he could begin, Kyungsoo sighed and looked at Luhan, his expression lost. “I think I know what it is.”
“Know what, what is?” Baekyun asked from his place at the table.
“My power.”
“Well?”
“Earth.”
-----
“What makes you think, that we can find him now that he has escaped?”
“I don’t know” Joonmyun replied, running his hands through his hair. They were sitting at a small table in a small Korean restaurant they had come across while wandering aimlessly around streets. The whole place was full of foreign people, they were both lost. But then they had to find the boy, Baekhyun.
While they were on the run in Hong Kong, they had been found twice by those hunting men and had barely managed to escape. During their stay in one motel, they had turned on the television and seen a news about a boy who had escaped from a mental prison, that boy has claimed to shoot light through him palms. That boy, Joonmyun dreamt of not one but many nights.
It had all started with just flashes, flashes of blurred faces just appearing to him. He never recognised any of them, except for Minseok’s. Everyday the flashes turned clearer and clearer until he could finally make out the faces of some people. Baekhyun was one of them.
So there they were, having lunch in New Jersey, hoping to somehow catch a glimpse of the boy that they were now sure of being one of them. It was a stupid idea but they had nowhere else to go, no one to turn to, just each other.
“What happens if we do find him?”
“I don’t know.”
“We could kidnap him and make him talk?”
“Minseok, we are not going to kidnap anyone.”
“Why not, we don’t know if he’s actually a good person. Who knows maybe he’s one of them and he might end up killing us.”
“He’s not bad, he’s one of us. I can feel it.”
“Well, you are weird.”
“Thank You, now eat your food, we need to go visit the hospital today.”
“And, how exactly my dear Joonmyun do you plan on communicating with the people there?”
Oh, he hadn’t thought of that. Joonmyun mentally face palmed himself for not thinking this whole thing through.
“Don’t worry,” Minseok started again, “we’ll figure it out. We always do.”
“Yeah, I just hope its not too late when we figure things out.”
----
It was getting extremely annoying for Baekhyun to sit there and hear Luhan explain the whole story about “how they came to be” for the millionth time to Kyungsoo. That boy simply didn’t believe it or he was scared. Either way now he had his eyes wide open, so they were the size of saucers asking Luhan again if he could repeat the story. Sitting next to him, Jongdae was trying to stifle his laughter as Luhan sighed and ran his hands through his hair for the millionth time while gently explaining the whole thing all over again to Kyungsoo.
Luhan would never usually do this, he wasn’t the patient type, but here he was. Baekhyun knew it was important, it was very important that the boy stayed with them and worked with them . It was the only they could get rid of the Draquas. Baekhyun shivered at the name the hunters were given. He knew what it was like to be in Kyungsoo’s position, but come on, it had been over 3 hours now. Baekhyun had received the same explanation from Luhan when he was first brought into the group by Kai. He had hoped that Kai would explain the whole thing to him, but it turns out the boy isn’t much of a talker or a friendly person, instead Luhan had to explain the whole thing to him. It wasn’t hard to believe, he knew it was true, he knew he was different, and now he had proof that he wasn’t.
Living with Kai and Luhan in Hawaii had been hard during the first few months. It seems Kai was close to Luhan, maybe because they met first. But he always felt that Kai trusted Luhan, a lot, eventually Kai warmed up a bit to Baekhyun. After he found out what happened to Kai he had felt pity for the boy, and all of his potential romantic interests had turned into brotherly feeling in which he wanted to be there for Kai. The boy was alone and now Baekhyun could see it clearly. Their bond became stronger with time and Kai he found out was a playful person who he liked to banter with a lot. Kai and Luhan had a lot in common, that’s why they got along so well, Baekhyun realised. When they were in Hawaii, each of them used to bring at least two girls every 4 days into their house and do God knows what in the bedrooms.
Baekhyun kept to himself, he preferred to sleep, he wanted to sleep always, because that was when he dreamt of the boy. The boy with rich brown hair, soft eyes and breathtaking smile.
