Every now and again, I like to google myself--my name, that is. It seems like every time I do, something new is referenced. I might stumble across a newer restaurant review for the paper I currently write, an editorial I published years ago, an HTML question I answered at a job i had right after graduating college, or an industry report cited in another article.
Today I discovered one of the most unusual finds--a paper I wrote for a public health grad class in complementary and alternative medicine maybe five years ago that I had put up on my mostly defunct old personal web site so a few friends could read it. It was called "The Treatment of Fibromyalgia Through Massage: An Ayurvedic Perspective", and it was rather dry and technical as a pseudo-scientific paper. Yet apparently an integrative health and wellness resource found it readable enough to refer readers who were looking for information about both fibromyalgia and massage.
I was a little apprehensive when I first saw it, worried someone else had potentially lifted it (no, there was no good reason why anyone would do that), but they indeed credited me and linked directly to that web page. It was pretty cool to see, especially as so many things have been pointing me back in the direction of moving into integrative health lately. We'll see what may happen.
In other news, it appears that I've been recruited to join a co-ed softball league. This is laughable considering that I have not played softball since I was in high school (which was many years ago but I was actually decent), and that my depth perception has gone South since then, making my eye-hand coordination a joke most times. Also, I'm not sure I have the stamina for full practices and games, though admittedly I'm at the best shape I've been in 9 years.
Yet a big part of me wants to give it a try. I was actually looking for a soccer team or adult gymnastics club to join, but this came out of the blue instead. Kismet or an opportunity for me to make a complete fool out of myself? We shall see.
