I am still here! I went through a rough patch, yes, but I feel like I am making my way back to light again.
Since my last update, I had a visit to the ER with the worst headache (which is saying a lot) of my life. Over a week later, I had a head MRI that, of course made a migraine even worse. I am much better now and can actually function, but I am not entirely sure it's fully gone away yet.
I had a bit of drama with boys. I did a few stupid, little things I later regretted to the latest fling and the ex (nothing major, just enough to embarrass the sensitive me) and have made a resolution not to get anywhere near a computer or phone after I've taken Ambien. 'Nuff said.
Yesterday, I had my first date with a sweet, complicated red-head who is a chef and musician with very good taste in literature. He is already smitten. I may be persuaded if he cooks as well as I think he does. I'm taking it light and slow.
I am still substitute teaching, but it's been a slow year so far at the company for which I work. I had a lull in reporting as well over the holidays, and the economy has hit the paper, cutting the amount of articles I can write per week. Too much idle time was making me crazy, until I decided I had the power to fill the spaces.
I started working on my novel again, and happily did not feel like tossing it all, but instead began the long journey of re-working and pushing off from where I am. It's amazing to fall in love with my twin main characters all over again.
I also started the process of becoming a creativity counselor, volunteering at a hospital to work with patients on creative projects, as part of the hospital's "Art for Healing" program. The people I am going to be working with, the program, and the opportunities it might birth all really excite me, and I can't wait to begin training.
I have been cooking again. I accidentally made a very tasty barbecue sauce that my family has been requesting to have on everything we've been eating over the last week from turkey-oatmeal meatloaf, to spicy chicken, to kielbasa with black beans. I also made a chicken, salsa, veggie and rice dish for my friend and her husband who is recovering from surgery--they quickly polished it off and asked for the recipe. And with winter, it's the perfect excuse to keep baking desserts. Yum.
And there is my cat waiting to cuddle and help keep me warm in this chilly evening. Later, I will curl up on the couch and watch Ghost Whisperer with my mother, and go to sleep peacefully.
