Well, my week turned out not to be so much one of reading deprivation as of reading decrease, but I am still proud of the accomplishment. I went in with the best of intentions but because of overdoing it physically, I had to fall back on resting that did not in any way, shape, or form involve my arms or overtax the brain, and preferably didn't stress the eye as too much being at the computer had done. Some light reading rescued me last week at bedtime.
I did refrain from doing too much other "non-essential" reading. I caught up with friends. I worked on cleaning my room. I played the keyboard and worked on a song. I had some QT with my cat. I applied for some jobs. I got caught up with the jobs I do have. I exercised. And this week, as my parents are out of the state to go deliver their second grandchild, I am committing to do more reading deprivation. I baked a peach pie. I watched a couple movies, including the epic (read very long!) Cleopatra.
This past weekend, I finally got to meet the very cool
adamant_turtle, who has been an lj friend for a couple years and who recently started a local support group for people living with chronic health issues. We had our first meeting on Saturday; it was a solid turn out for the group and quite therapeutic for me. I am looking forward to our future meetings.
Today, I caught up on the phone with my old friend Heather, and we're going to get together sometime in the near future. And just as I was starting to feel a little down about not going to NC with my parents, my old childhood best friend Deanna emailed me. She invited me to go see Regina Spektor with her on August 15 and to stay with her family in Brooklyn for the weekend. I'm thrilled to get a chance to hang out with Dee and her daughters who I haven't seen in well over a year. Ah, there are more things to look forward to!
