Look. Puck isn't even in this episode. And I still watched it. That's commitment.
Best thing about this episode: Very little Mr. Schue (except for stupid facial expressions every once in a while), and a wide variety of characters singing.
I do love when the show showcases the many voices it has. I'm just sad we missed out on a Brittany/Artie duet.
The best number went to my least favorite character. "Le Jazz Hot" was everything I wanted it to be. They used choreography from the movie, which was delightful; a wonderful homage. The only thing was Kurt's final note, but that's hard to do. I can only recommend people watch
the Julie Andrews original.
Anyway, Kurt made me seethe last night. His whole shpiel about homophobes (which Google Chrome thinks should be 'homophones') and how he can't even be friends with straight men. I was glad people tried to talk to him about the difference between being friends and stalking people in the shower, but the fact that he can't understand that makes me crazy.
In regards to Brittany and Santana, I've seen this before. On "Nip/Tuck." Another Ryan Murphy show. Another Ryan Murphy show with possible lesbian cheerleaders. Another Ryan Murphy show with possible lesbian cheerleaders in red uniforms. Whatever, I've stopped thinking of Ryan Murphy as...well, anything really.
I loved Quinn in this episode. She was just so. Everything good. Her duet with Sam? Second favorite song of the episode. My favorite line of hers was "What's the point of being popular if you can't get what you want?" I think I like cheerleader!Quinn best of all.
I also loved Sam. I love that he can speak Na'vi. I love that he's a giant goofball. He's a great addition to the cast.
I really hate how they're rewriting Rachel's character. Like Finn's all surprised that Rachel is all about the "team." Well, yes. Did you watch last season? She's always been all about the team. Instead the writers are negating that and making her self-centered and irritating. I will persevere because maybe Rachel will become likable again.
However, Sue wasn't in the episode and neither was Puck, and those were both downsides. I don't really know what to say about this episode as a whole. No real plot development, just pretty good songs (except for anything Finn was involved in.) When he duets with Rachel, it just highlights his bad vocals. I'm almost wondering if maybe he should have solos, just so he doesn't bring down other people's songs. Someone make the boy take voice lessons.
"The Big C" wasn't as awesome as usual this week, however I'm still so in love with Idris Elba that it doesn't even matter. "Weeds" also took a hit, but still managed to be way more awesome than last season. Speaking of things that are way more awesome, there's "The Amazing Race" this season. SO MUCH BETTER when Stupid Beauty Queen Such As is not around.
