We got married--no, really, we did!
2NE1 + BEAST | Slight AU, Romance, Humor | CL/Junhyung | PG | 1841 words
Chaerin and Junhyung weren’t exactly meant to be but being on a popular variety show definitely made it happen and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
A/N: I know this is a random pairing but I for some reason I ship them. Maybe because their strong-willed personalities are similar. Dedicated to my wifey (
sunaneko ), Hyunnie, and Seobie. ♥♥ Thanks for putting up with me while I wrote this, guys! ;~;
As always, comments are much appreciated! ♥
The announcement is all the more surprising than it is shocking when the news is first announced. BEAST’s Junhyung and CL of 2NE1 are to be the new couple in the third season of We Got Married. Even their own group members find out the hard way (in their own separate dorms, of course), turning to said friends with questionable looks and envious words.
At first there’s the initial jealousy from the fans, the ones who yearn to be in CL’s place (or Junhyung’s) but it tides over after declaring them the Rapper Couple. Much like the past celebrity couples who starred on WGM, it takes Junhyung and Chaerin a while to adjust to the fact that they have to act like a real couple. Such a feat proves to be quite difficult for Chaerin, who’s never been in a relationship-a fact that dumbfounds her ‘husband.’
“So you’ve never had a boyfriend?” Junhyung asks her, scrutinizing her features for any hints of a lie. Technically, they’ve only been ‘married’ for a few weeks but he decided long ago that he’d do his best to understand her and that includes studying her facial expressions as she speaks and not because he finds her pretty.
Chaerin, on the other hand, isn’t fazed by his fixed stare and simply shakes her head. “Nope.” Adjusting the large Lady Gaga-like sunglasses on her face, she leans over to squeeze his cheeks in a mocking manner and tells him, “Don’t hurt yourself overanalyzing me.”
As it turns out, the show becomes even more of a hit with the new couple. Even though the two seemed like a complete mismatch at first-considering that Junhyung has been with more girls than Doojoon can count on his fingers and toes while Chaerin’s crush on Teddy is just as famous as her--it’s the honest but endearing interaction between the young idols that catches the attention of almost anyone who watches WGM. Like when Chaerin stayed up all night to make him a new hat with the help of the stylist oppas. Or when 2NE1 were filming their new music video and Junhyung surprised her and the rest of the girls with homemade lunches.
But somewhere along the lines, past the first awkward encounters and polite exchanges, real feelings developed, ones they couldn’t deny. It’s anticipated, really. When two people are put together on a show and told to act like a married couple, it’s difficult to differentiate between work and pleasure. And for some reason, both of them don’t fight it. Maybe it started with Chaerin and how she felt so at ease around him and didn’t have to worry about keeping up her image of the mysterious leader of 2NE1. Maybe Junhyung took the initiative and hugged her a little too long during that one episode during their honeymoon but the fact remains that these feelings are real. More real than the concepts and images their separate companies could put together, respectively. No longer was it just a show to Junhyung and Chaerin because they certainly weren’t going to put a stop to how they felt about each other.
After spending six months as the youngest couple on We Got Married, Junhyung and Chaerin’s featuring comes to an anti-climactic end. During their last episode, they shed a few tears and exchange sweet words, promises, and hug for what seems the longest time as they look back on the trials and tribulations they went through. It’s bittersweet knowing that they won’t ever be able to act like this from here on out and the two do their best to relish every second of it.
But the anti-climactic part is that a few weeks after the season ends, Junhyung calls up Chaerin one night when he can’t sleep; wanting to hear her voice like that one time they were in Jeju Island and talked well until dawn. As predicted, she doesn’t hesitate to pick up on the first ring and greet him in a soft voice.
It’s that single phone call that triggers nostalgic memories and their inability to deny how deep their feelings have run. And just like that, the two falls back into the routine that loosely shapes a relationship but this time it’s of their own accord.
The only moment of hesitation came a year later at their wedding-which was a secret, of course, just like the start of their relationship. Under a quaint but exciting atmosphere, it was held at city hall in front of a judge with their parents as their witnesses. Silence filled the room when it was time for their vows but Junhyung took those few precious moments to turn to Chaerin, obvious affection in his eyes as he whispered, “Are you sure about this?”
Looking straight at him, she gave him a brilliant smile and answered, “More sure than I have ever been in my life.”
However, the letters full of threat and hateful comments online about her are expected. Really, Chaerin had no doubt the announcement of her and Junhyung’s secret (well, not so secret now) marriage would cause an influx of hate mail in their inbox with her name on them. But even the baddest female of Seoul city cringes at the very sight of how vicious the words are. Despite her initial confidence of ignoring them, each day brings more letters and a new level of anxiety for Chaerin.
Sighing, she grimaces-an expression that’s been stuck on her face since the first hate letter arrived-when she shows the manager where to put the letters. In the trash, of course, but it’s already full. So for now she’s forced to glance at the large, clear bag with great distaste before heading back to 2NE1’s shared apartment.
It’s a Friday but the whole dorm is empty and dull without the other three girls. Times like these makes Chaerin feel completely useless as the leader and yearns for nothing more than loud voices and Bom-unni’s random singing. Hoping to break the stillness, she plops herself onto the couch and turns on the TV to flip through the channels for a decent show.
Ever since their marriage was announced, YG thought it would be best if she stayed out of the spotlight for a little while-which was code for stay cooped up in the apartment until the fans decrease their level of craziness.
“Just to get the anti-fans off our backs,” he had told her after the press conference and she understood why.
But being idled never sat well with Chaerin. Not at all. Ever since she was young, her father’s career made them move often; from one home to another and a new country and new everything each time. Though she slowly adjusted to the countless moving and bittersweet hello’s and goodbyes, it created a sense of apprehension in her when she wasn’t constantly doing something or anything.
Like now.
The sound of a doorbell breaks her out of her thoughts, making her eyebrows furrow when she asks out loud, “Who could be here at this hour?” It’s only one in the afternoon and the girls don’t usually return from practice until midnight, panting and yearning for either bed or some form of healthy substance. Since she doesn’t hear Dara’s loud cry of, “CL-roo!” or Bom’s formal, “Chaerin-ah~” she guesses it’s a package and heads to the front. Much to her surprise, she opens the door to see a nonchalant Junhyung holding a small bouquet of roses, baseball cap casting a shadow over his face and large sunglasses somewhat hiding his distinctive features, though not quite achieving their goal.
“Hey,” is the only greeting she gets before he moves around her and into the apartment, door swinging closed after him.
“Um, hi?” Chaerin greets him-her husband, she reminds herself-with wide eyes as she follows him into the living room. “W-What are you doing here?” Only Junhyung is able to make 2NE1’s Leader stumble and stutter over her words; a fact that he often used to tease her about.
“I heard that you were lonely,” the BEAST’s rapper explains, giving her a smirk as he offers the roses to her. When Chaerin tilts her head in confusion, he laughs good heartedly and adds, “A little palm tree-I mean a bird told me.”
Chaerin sighs, knowing exactly who the so-called palm tree is, and takes the bouquet from him with a shy ‘thank you’ and a peck to his cheek. “Are you hungry?” she asked, cheeks stained with a light red blush at the realization that they were all alone in the dorm.
He nodded. “Yeah, a little. What do you have?” Adjusting his hat to slide it around and wear it backwards, Junhyung reached for her hand
Hours later all of Chaerin’s worries and tension about the hate letters and hurtful comments so many fans had made were so far away they hardly seemed real, and it was so much easier to focus on Lilo’s voice coming from the TV-the third Disney movie in their marathon, which Junhyung had seemed oddly eager to agree too-than to let the problems from earlier eat at her mind again. The fact that his arm was around her shoulders and she was nestled into his chest like he was a beanbag chair didn’t seem odd at all, it was just right, and natural, and she didn’t even feel like they were idols anymore. She laughed as the character on TV tripped, the sound effects still managed to give her a childlike joy, and by the not so subtle shaking of Junhyung’s chest it had the same effect on him too and she couldn’t help but look at him, her relaxed eyes meeting his mirth filled ones.
“Thanks for coming over,” Chaerin told him with a bright smile, which was a break from the grimace she was sporting earlier.
“It’s no problem.” Giving her another satisfied smirk, he let himself lean down to press his lips against hers into a chaste kiss, one that his wife hummed in response but was interrupted by the sound of a shocking gasp and Bom shrieking, “Chaerin-ah! What are you doing? Maknae’s eyes will be ruined.”
Almost immediately the sound of scandalous indecency caught Dara’s attention, who pushed to the front and squealed, “Huh? Where? I want to see!”
“Oh, CL-unni and Junhyung-oppa are kissing,” Minji explained coolly, not the least bit surprised.
“Minji-ah!” came Bom’s voice who practically jumped over to the magnae to cover her eyes all the while Chaerin and Junhyung fell to the floor laughing and clutching their stomachs.
In a world where their lives are dictated by strict diets, schedules with little sleep penciled in, and scrutinized by people on a daily basis, Chaerin and Junhyung don’t regret eloping because they found something real to believe in.
