Yesterday was pretty damn fun. Went down to Gastonia with Mike, Aubrey and Geoff. I bought fabric for my Hogwarts Robes (Blast you Hannah! You said you'd make me some like a year ago or something. You suck. :P) I got some light-weight black wool and Geoff just reached into the spools of dupioni silk and pulled out one with the most brilliant emerald green color. I never would've noticed it. It was hidden. Cleverly disguised as a spool of silk hiding beneath several others just above the bottom row of the rack by the floor. I hope this costume works out. Otherwise, I'll just be Velma from Scooby Doo.
It was a successful trip, except one of the squeezy skulls was broken and fake blood got everywhere and the lights we got sucked hard. So the lights will go back and the squeezy skull is in a bin somewhere at the compound.
I made chicken soup/stew stuff. It's one of those things that's almost too simple to work, but I really love it. It's my first request when I go home and now I can make it myself. Chicken thighs and tortillas. Just trust me. I'll describe the cooking of them. Boil water, add salt, put in chicken thighs, cook the chicken until it's done (for thighs, either the meat is starting to fall off the bone, or the chicken feels like a hard penis), take sliced flour tortillas (They're the cheap substitute for actually making pastry noodles from flour and eggs much easier), cook them in the chicken broth you've just made, they puff up like pastry noodles it's fabulous, meanwhile those are boiling, debone the chicken and toss it back in as you go. Bring it all to a boil again for a while and then let it sit for a few minutes then dig in. Just when I started to doubt the Englishness of my family, then a recipe that includes only chicken and flour noodles and maybe some salt and a dash of pepper surfaces. There's still some left, so if you're in Boone and you want a sampling of ridiculously simple but good food then kindly holla at me.
The fun thing about Gastonia is that whenever I go with Mike it's a huge-neverending nostalgia trip. I love watching people trip on bundles and bundles of nostalgia. We even rode by his old house which was for sale. And he also showed us some of the local places featured in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Most excellent.
