V for Vendetta

I saw V for Vendetta last night with my friend Carolyn. I thought it was excellent. The acting was very good, the British accents were sexy, and (of course) Natalie Portman was fabulous. I thought the movie came out at a very good time because it describes the government oppressing and killing "undesirables": gay people, Muslims, immigrants, etc. In many of the reviews people said that the movie was pro-terrorist but I thought of it as more of how a terrorist is created, and how a person can come to the conclusion that extreme violence is the only way to do what you think needs to be done. It showed people being tortured, killed, and their basic rights being taken away. It also showed the paranoia of the government and the government's desire to make people afraid. The leader reminded me of Bush. Not his appearance, but how he is described: a conservative Christian who uses his followers to take over the government and take freedoms away from the common people. Very appropriate and kind of scary.

The action scenes were all really great, but I didn't like all the blood. Natalie Portman was just gorgeous. It makes me sick that even after she has her hair shaved off and is tortured, she still is beautiful and has great cheekbones. Some girls just have all the luck.
