You, You Ought to Give Me Wedding Rings: Husbands, Part 1/3, continued AGAIN

Jul 01, 2011 05:42

My sincere apologies to everybody - I have no idea why LJ is acting so weird, not letting me post more than I am at once...

“Now, Blaine and Kurt have also prepared vows which they've written to each other. Blaine, will you read your vows to Kurt?”

He fumbled around, trying to pull the piece of paper from his jacket pocket, but his fingers had stopped working. He was shaking. This was incredibly uncharacteristic of him, and incredibly embarrassing, as he could usually find his suave Dalton-boy front so easily. But then Kurt's hand came out of the darkness, resting on his arm, steadying him, and the world had righted itself again. He opened the paper and began to speak, his eyes trained on the man standing in front of him.

“When we first started dating, all the way back in high school, I was in this huge poetry phase, and I found this. I know you've heard me read it to you a hundred times, but the way it makes me feel - the way I feel about you - hasn't ever wavered from that very first time. So I'd like to read it to you again today, if that's alright.”

Kurt nodded, his eyes once again filling with salty tears.

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                                      i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)

Blaine paused here to wipe his eyes, sniffling a bit, and continued.
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

He dabbed at his eyes again. “I don't know how else to say it. I carry your heart with me - I carry it in my heart. You're a part of me, Kurt - we've been together so long now, and we've been through so much together, that some days I honestly can't tell where I end and you begin. I love you so much. I always hear all these vows that people write, making promises they're not going to keep about never going to bed mad - because we do, sometimes - and never taking each other for granted - because, let's face it, we've done that too. But what I will promise you today, what I've promised you for half our lives now, is that I will love you every day, and I will love you no matter what life throws at us. I promise that for the rest of our lives, just like I've done every day for the past seventeen years, that I will carry your heart. I will carry it in my heart.”

Kurt wasn't even trying to hold back his tears anymore, he was just clutching Blaine's hands with one of his, and wiping his tears with the now-wet pocket square.

He wasn't the only one crying - there wasn't a dry eye in the whole garden.

Wes had now resorted to a handkerchief, and was also wiping at his eyes. “Kurt, would you like to read to Blaine what you've prepared?”

He chuckled through his tears. “If I can stop crying long enough to speak.” He took a deep breath of air and huffed it out. “Okay.”

“I love you,” Blaine mouthed, brushing his thumb lightly over Kurt's cheek.

“I love you, too,” he mouthed back, fishing the piece of paper out of his pocket. “Blaine.” He paused, trying to compose himself. “God, these overproductive tear ducts are killing me.”

Everyone laughed, including him, and it seemed to loosen him up enough to continue. “Blaine. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. Seventeen years ago, I sang a song and you told me that I moved you, and then you totally rocked my world by giving me my first kiss that ever really counted, and that was the beginning of it all. Since then, you've taught me so many things. Patience. Kindness. The fact that sometimes it's better to keep my mouth shut.” Laughter rose from the crowd before them. “In all seriousness, you make me a better version of myself, which is all I could ever want in a relationship. You make me a better designer, you make me a better father, and you make me want to be the best husband to you in the whole world. I promise to try to be that for you. We've been together long enough to know that I will fail, and fail again, but I swear to you Blaine, I will always keep trying. I made a promise seventeen years ago that I will never say goodbye to you. I've managed to keep that promise for half of my life, and I don't intend on going back on it now. I will love you, Blaine Anderson-Hummel, until the day I die.”

“Now, before I allow Kurt and Blaine to make out in front of all you fine people-” Wes was interrupted by peals of laughter, “-there's one more very important part of this wedding ceremony that I am, once again, honored to be a part of. Lily? Will you come up and stand with your daddies?”

Her little blonde head perked up at the sound of her name. Burt nudged her forward. “Go on, honey.”

She skipped up to the front, arms outstretched. Kurt picked her up, and she wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder.

“Lily, your dads have something very important they want to talk with you about.”

She sat up and looked at Wes.

“Do you know what important means?”

“It means … special,” she said, after thinking for a second.

Blaine smiled. “That's exactly right, sweetheart.”

“Lily, do you know why your dads are here today?”

“Get mawied.”

“Do you know what that means?”

She scrunched her little face up in thought, then looked at Blaine, then Kurt, to help her with the answer.

Kurt turned her back around to face him “You remember we talked about this, honey? We're getting married because we...”

“Love each othew!” she cried, remembering.

“Very good, Lily. So your dads want to tell you some more stuff about getting married, okay? Can you listen to them really closely?”

“Yes.” She nodded, very serious.

“Okay Lily, some of this you might not be able to understand just yet, but you can watch the video of this when you're older, and you'll understand better then. And if you have any questions, you know you can always ask me or Daddy, right?”

“Wight.”

Blaine continued. “Okay. We're getting married because we love each other, but it's not just about us anymore, because we have you.”

“Me! Lily!”

Kurt picked back up. “That's right. We have Lily. A few minutes ago, I made promises to Daddy and Daddy made promises to me, but we wanted to make promises to you too, sweetheart, because we love you so much. Do you know what we do with promises?”

“Keep them.”

“Are promises important?”

“Yes. Pwomises awe special.”

“Good girl,” Blaine continued. “Lily, we promise to love you and take care of you and be the best Daddies to you that we can possibly be.”

“We promise to love each other and take care of each other so you will be able to grow up in a happy, safe place.”

“We promise that even if I get mad at Dad or he gets mad at me, that doesn't mean we don't love each other, and it doesn't mean anybody's going anywhere.”

“Like … like when I flushed youw watch down the potty?” Lily interrupted. Laughter erupted in the garden, even Wes couldn't keep a straight face through the moisture that was apparently staying in his eyes for the duration of the ceremony.

“Yes, sweetheart, exactly like that. I wasn't happy about it, but that doesn't mean that I don't love you, right?”

“Wight.”

Kurt regrouped, and continued with a smile. “We promise that we will never stop kissing in front of you, even when you're 14 and totally embarrassed, because we never want you to question our love for each other.”

“We promise to always make time to play with you and listen to you if you ever need to talk.”

“We promise that you're allowed to be mad at us for things, and that no matter what you do or say, we'll love you just the same.”

“We promise that if we're ever wrong about something - because, believe it or not, Dad and me aren't always right about everything - we'll let you know, and we'll apologize for it.”

“And, because we don't feel like we can ever say this too much, your Daddy and I love you so, so much, Lily. That isn't ever going to change, okay?”

“Otay. I love you too, Dad.” Kurt hugged her tightly, then handed her to Blaine.

“I love you, Lil.”

“I love you too, Daddy. I'm hungwy.”

He laughed as he pulled his little girl close, burying his head in her hair. “We'll get you a snack soon, okay baby?”

“Otay.”

He set her gently on the ground. “Do you want to go sit with Grandpa and Nana for just a few more minutes? I bet Uncle Finn will let you sit on his lap...”

“Uncle Finn!” she cried, thrilled with the idea. She bounded over to him, and he scooped her up and placed her on his knee, bouncing her up and down like he knew she liked.

“Alright! I'm so pleased to announce - by the powers vested in me, and by the great state of New York, I now pronounce you husband,” Wes looked at Blaine, “and husband,” he turned to Kurt. “Now, make good on that promise you made to Lily before she gets old enough to know to be embarrassed.”

They stepped close together.

“Hey you,” Blaine said softly, cupping Kurt's cheek in his hand.

“I've been dying to do this all night,” he breathed, and leaned forward into his husband's arms, lips locking in the sweetest, most victorious kiss they'd ever shared. Catcalls and whoops erupted in the twilight, and after what seemed like eons, they pulled back ever-so-gently and beamed at each other.

“Ladies and gentlemen - Blaine and Kurt Anderson-Hummel!”

They clasped hands, raising them high in delight, and then Blaine ran and grabbed a tiny little ukulele from behind the tree. He started strumming, and Kurt's clear voice filled the night sky a few seconds later, singing the lyrics to a happy, silly little song.

Don't you worry there my honey

We might not have any money

But we've got our love to pay the bills

He was flirting with his new husband like crazy, and Blaine was just eating it up.

Maybe I think you're cute and funny

Maybe I wanna do what bunnies do with you

If you know what I mean

At that last line, Kurt gave Blaine a smoldering look and rolled his hips a single time. Which caused Blaine to nearly forget how to play the ukulele altogether.

Oh, let's get rich and buy our parents homes

In the South of France

Let's get rich and give everybody nice sweaters

And teach them how to dance

Let's get rich and build a house on a mountain

Making everybody look like ants

From way up there

You and I, you and I

Then Blaine came in, and they started down the aisle, moving to the bouncy music, singing together.

Well you might be a bit confused

Kurt sang back at him,

And you might be a little bit bruised

Blaine continued,

But baby how we spoon like no one else

So I will help you read those books

If you will soothe my worried looks

They both sang the last line,

And we will put the lonesome on the shelf

And then the New Directions and the Warblers came in on the chorus, as they and the rest of the guests began to get up from the benches.

Oh, let's get rich and buy our parents homes

In the South of France

Let's get rich and give everybody nice sweaters

And teach them how to dance

Let's get rich and build a house on a mountain

Making everybody look like ants

From way up there

You and I, you and I

On the last chorus, the music stopped and the two Glee clubs and the newlyweds provided a simple percussive beat, slapping their legs and clapping.

Oh, let's get rich and buy our parents homes

In the South of France

Let's get rich and give everybody nice sweaters

And teach them how to dance

Let's get rich and build a house on a mountain

Making everybody look like ants

From way up there

You and I, you and I

And as the song ended, all the guests headed toward the tent for the reception, but Blaine grabbed Kurt's hand and pulled him into the tree-shrouded darkness.
