Today marks not only Lavender's official birthday, it also marks the day I first started writing her story. Don't worry, there's no need to humour me. ^_~
I haven't looked at the first draft of chapter one in several years, but it isn't very different from the first version I posted to this community (which for some reason probably having to do with masochism I still haven't deleted). In any case, it seriously sucked. Thank the gods I at least had enough talent to recognise that and try to do something about it. XD
I'm not sure why I never gave up on this story. There are plenty of others (Serala, Everscape, and an utter failure called Strawberry Pocky, to name a few) that I began with plenty of enthusiam but just couldn't make work. After the first two years, Lavender became one of the more constant things in my life, something that had been around too long to just trash.
In any case, it was most likely my high school English/Creative Writing teacher's fault. Mr. Fairweather was always willing to read whatever I had for him, and even better, he would critique it. My junior year he read the first two thirds, then sat down with me, told me what should be fixed, and said, "Darlin', I know you're going to be published one day." And you just don't doubt that Fairweather knows what he's talking about. Fairweather knows everything.
And so I've been obsessed with publication ever since.
It's now come down to the point where I am almost ready to send it out. All I need is one more returned critique of the first three chapters, and while I'm waiting for that I am choosing the first publisher to send it to and typing up my synopsis and cover letter.
Wouldn't it be great if I could see Lavender in print by the next anniversary? :D
