only works when i'm dead asleep.i felt like i didn't sleep last night. i kept thinking about the book 'de donkere kamer van damokles', which i finished yesterday. i really liked it actually. i didn't really dig the fact that it was set during world war two, i would have liked it more if the story was told in an "every day life" situation. it's ( Read more... )

i'm sorry that you dislike your literature in school. i actually really enjoy most of mine. this year we read (or have read) 'the adventures of huckleberry finn,' 'black boy,' 'the catcher in the rye,' 'the crucible,' as well as an array of short stories. i dislike 'huck finn' but i liked black boy a lot. i've already read 'catcher in the rye' and i absolutely hated it. the story itself isn't bad and it gets deep into the psyche, but it's written so poorly i can hardly pay attention to it. reading 'goddam,' 'phony,' 'sonuvabitch,' 'helluva,' and 'i got a 'bang' out of ...' just pisses me off. i really hate that book.

i'm really enjoying english class right now, though, because we're studying f. scott fitzgerald. i love him. he was really the ultimate rock star. he became really famous, lived a lavish and hedonistic life, burned out, and died young with a catologue of wonderful literary art. i love his stories because they're not like the others we've read that have been all about men living off the land and fighting nature for their lives. fitzgerald's works are almost always about love and the rich lifestyles of the upper-class in the 1920s. he describes things so beautifully and thoroughly and his stories almost always bring tears to my eyes. it's a lot of fun reading them.

unfortunately, i don't have the time to translate your story, but if you ever have it written in english or german then you should let me know so i can read it.

there were no cars to dim the stars that shone brightly here tonight,
and pens and pencils and writing utensils are within reach so i will write.

i know you hated 'the catcher in the rye', and though i see where you're coming from, i really STRONGLY disagree. i think the language is part of the book's charm... it's a way of making holden more believable and relate-able as a character. and i love the book BECAUSE of holden as a character. he's like every teenager who was ever really down, and i love that. i think holden's a hero because he didn't do anything heroic at all, he was just like real life.

lol at the fitzgerald thing. because i just saw this movie called 'the united states of leland', where leland's father is writer albert t. fitzgerald. it's an AMAZING movie.

by the way, a week or so ago i got an e-mail from you. actually i got the same e-mail four times. i replied to that. and then a few days after my reply i got that same e-mail again. so i'm assuming something's going on with your e-mail adress. so what's up?

i haven't seen the united states of ireland. i'll see if i can get a hold of it.

i definitely didn't send the same email five times. which email is it? did you already reply to it, because if you did, i don't think i received it. i hope i don't have someone hacking my files. anyway, i must get back to listening to christina aguilera's first album, before she got slutty. (i love christina's music, just not the new image. she's coming out with a new album that's supposed to be based on 1920s style music. i'm soooo excited).

no no noooo, not 'the united states of ireland", lol, it's LELAND (a boys name).

your e-mail was like this:
you started with "okay, time for a real reply. i just got done running four miles." you also talked about how you plan on stuyding music, colleges, radiohead touring, naming people after seasons (ref to frank zappa's kids) and you said that you're still obsessed with and you will....blabla...trail of dead.

my reply was sort of like this:
STOP RUNNING, guys like 50 cent aren't sexy! it's better to be thin! i like thin guys! then i said how i love that you're planning on studying music, that it's SO brave [praise praise praise]. then i made fun of the american names you mentioned, and told you that chris martin has a son who's called - and this is very funny and almost as bad as being named "moon unit" or "apple" for that matter - MOSES (also a coldplay song as you know). then i probably said that i saw trail of dead live once and that they had two/three/multiple drummers. then i was probably like "MAIL ME!".
so yeah, that was my reply as i recall it. except longer. and funnier. ;)

i thought i had replied to that one. i laughed at it a lot. i loved the subliminal message in chris martin's children's names part, especially the 'u2 sucks.' i don't have time tonight, but i'll reply later.

i think chris's next daughter should be named 'smoke,' just to throw people off.

yeah or he'd name his next child something totally normal, like 'john' or 'anne'. i mean, THAT would be shocking ;).
