It used to drive my stepfather and I to distraction that my mother would not allow me to work. Minimal chores, no expectations, no working after school or weekends (while in high school). And, allow me to say that potential employers were not impressed when the time came and I needed to work.
My mother thought it acceptable that I babysit. Mind you, I was an only child and had no child-rearing skills.
But today I learned something new. Something I'd never done before. A life skill.
Today, I mowed a lawn by myself for the first time.
It about killed me. (The lawnmower, self-propelled as it is, probably outweighs me.)
But I did it. Me. All by myself.
And if the trimmer hadn't run out of juice (on a new battery, no less!), I would have finished up the back yard trimming.
So the trimmer is charging, the laundry is hanging out to dry, and my hands hurt.
But still. Working on my house. I did it all by myself.
Yay, me.
