In things i did not know: Thea Gilmore is 35 weeks pregnant. Let me tell you, if I were 35 weeks pregnant, the last thing in the world I'd be capable of would be entertaining a room of strangers, so if she'd been half as good as she was tonight, I'd have been impressed. As it was, she was stunning. She was funny, without seeming like she was really *trying* to be, and her voice was incredible. She sang Crazy Love, and I had goosebumps. It was just her and the guitar, with a backing singer at the very end, and there was complete silence. I mean, literally there wasn't a sound.
She reminds me of Tom Mcrae, though she's less bitter and brutally sarcastic, and it's much more -- people listen with Tom, don't get me wrong; you wouldn't go otherwise -- but the times I've seen him, it's always like you're at some kind of party, if parties are the kind where you sit around and mock people. Which we all know they should be. Did I just hugely digress? Um, yeah, Thea is much more like you're there just to listen, and not because she's standoffish, or anything, but because with a voice like that, it's the only thing you'd want to do. Seriously, I didn't realise until tonight just how good her voice is. It fills a room, but it also sounds very personal, very intimate, and she manages to live in both the rocky songs and the balads.
Set list, or what I remember:
1. Call Me Your Darling -- Victoria, I thought of you and the handclapping. *g*
2. Have You Heard
3. Contessa -- I love this song anyway, but tonight it was also awesome; the drums were very cool, and I don't often say that.
4. Cheap Trick
5. Everybody's Numb
6. Juliet (Keep that in Mind) -- written about a girl who pissed her off before a gig. There's normally a really long story to go with this, but she said she was sparing us tonight. I was suitably disappointed.
7. Crazy Love -- did I mention this was awesome?
8. The List
9. Holding Your Hand -- apparently the night before some girl asked her boyfriend to marry her during this. Can I just say, I know some people find this romantic, and its possible I'm just mean, but if someone ever did that to me in public, I'd probably say no just to spite them. Gah.
10. Slow Journey II -- this was incredibly haunting, which you'd expect for a song about death. though obviously when she said that's what it was, my first reaction was, 'Dean!'
11. This Girl is taking Bets -- I'm not sure this is my favourite song of hers anymore, but it was the one that made me really love her, so I was really glad she did it, and she totally rocked out.
12. We Built a Monster
13. Rags and Bones
14. Mainstream
15. Red White and Black -- also amazing
16. Play Until the Bottle's Gone -- I love this, too, and it was the audience participation number, which was cool.
17. Inverigo -- she sounded incredible here, too, and it was a lovely ending
Anyway, if you get the chance, I'd definitely see her. My friend didn't really know anything about her, and she thoroughly enjoyed it, too, which is a testament to how strong a performer Thea is.

Huh. How is that the time? Bed maybe. Or Veronica Mars. It's so hard to decide.
