You would have thought I'd learned my lesson the last time something happened to my documents(they were encrypted by pirates) and my backup system was defunct. I lost a lot of chapters on two stories. So, being properly chastised, I set up a new hard drive for backups, and also started emailing myself the latest copy of what I was working on.
Go me.
Yeah. I dropped the ball and stopped the emailing thing, and then didn't delete old backups to make room for the new ones, so when Libre Open Office ate my last chapter of six thousand words last night, I had nothin'.
Man, I'm so mad at myself for slacking off. Karma comes around.
The only thing I can think happened to my missing chapter was I had highlighted it to see the word count, and somehow when I closed it out it, some glitch made it delete everything that had been highlighted. I'd clicked and ended the highlighting, and I know I did not accidentally delete it. It was there when I went to bed and it was gone in the morning. It's not in some temp file either, or was accidentally saved as another copy. I checked all that. I also did a virus scan, which came up clean.
So, the hard drive's cleaned out, so it should backup tonight, but my email program has decided to not work so I can't mail myself a copy.
Karma is a bitch. So true.
