Reader, I married him.

How are you doing? I've been busy these past five years, thanks. I just popped back in to say that I'm still alive, and to tell you all that adam_epp and I got married at San Francisco city hall last December 31. Yeah, that Adam.

It only seemed fitting to inform you that the deed was done, seeing that you saw the start of our unlikely relationship. When I first a couple of smart-alecky comments in the Evangelion section of BA, I never thought it would lead to something life-changing. Hell, I should go back even farther than that: when I wrote a few lines of praise on ff.net for a fellow fanfiction writer, I never thought I'd be getting married to him. You have to admit the absurdity level is cranked to eleven.

What's even more amusing, or ironic, is that we don't even write fanfiction anymore. Adam is doing his Ph.D. now  while I'm still writing my first novel. Why yes, it's a romance, and it's been taking me longer than usual. Once upon a time you guys would wait just a few weeks for me to finish a new story. Well, my long-suffering writing group has been waiting for two years for me to finish my narrative. I'm on my second draft and it's been one slow chapter at a time.

Our ceremony was lovely and intimate, despite the other couples waiting for the same judge, and the usual gawking tourists that swarm over a beautiful landmark. If any of you are considering an international elopement sometime in the future, the San Francisco City Hall is a wonderful venue.

My pesky little nephews (remember them?) are now thirteen and eight, respectively, and they livened up the family luncheon that came after. Adam was the only one to travel to the Bay Area, as we will be having a larger celebration in a couple of months. (It's weird, the concept of marrying the same man twice.) I have yet to meet the multitude of new aunts and uncles on his side of the family, or the gazillion of cousins he has. These things will come in time.

In between all this, though, comes the wretched paperwork. Adam is optimistic that it will take only five or six months before I can join him for good in Canada. I know I can fly there any time but I won't be able to work if I did that. I know racist Americans call Mexicans wetbacks and Canadians snowbacks... But what would be the American-fleeing-to-Canada equivalent? Draft dodger? Trump avoider? I don't know.

A long time ago, when people were just teasing us on BA, some intelligent person said "oh, you guys should just find a median point between Asia and Canada, and live there." If only it was so easy! I've made California my home for the past five years, and while I love it a lot, I have to go where Adam is. Devoted new wife, etc., etc. I hope this doesn't seem so sickeningly cute.

Besides, where he is, there's universal health care, and no gun-toting Republicans.

Anyway, I just want to keep this short, because I have a horrible cold and I need to go to work in an hour or so.

I just wanted to say: thank you all, I guess, for being part of an episode in our lives. I don't care if you read this today or six months from now. I just want you to know we're okay, we're happy, and yes, we are bound to each other in ways no one ever thought was possible.

P.S.
I just wanted you to know that Adam finally read Charlotte Bronte a year ago, and he hates her with a deep passion, and I've come to cringe, thinking about how much I loved her as a tween. So yeah, there's some irony in that blog entry headline. That's just how we still roll.
