Bleach character meme
Since I answered this for Bleach years ago, I think I'll answer it this time around for George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. I'm currently re-reading the entire series; I'm mid-way through "A Storm of Swords" again.
Re-reading, you may ask? Why bother? To be able to quote Bran Stark, to be sure:
"Old stories are like old friends... you have to visit them from time to time."
1. The character I first fell in love with:
Jon Snow. I heart Jon. He's a classic outsider, and one could say he was destined to be ranger with those looks, intelligence... *swoon*
Run to protect your crown, Aragorn, a new kid's in town.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
Jaime Lannister. He's such a magnificent bastard in the first book... I simply hated him for what he did. Every time "The Kingslayer" was mentioned with a curse, I thought, "yeah, you curse that bastard!"
And then by the third, when all his motivations and feelings are laid bare, he becomes quite human, even fragile. Ugh. Even when I don't want to -- it's impossible not to feel sympathy for him.
And it's so much nicer to ship him with Brienne than with you-know-who.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't:
SANSA STARK. Jesus Christ I want to shake some sense into that child. I hope by the end of the series that she ends up with someone really ugly, if only to show a reversal of all her previous concepts of truth, beauty, and love are all WRONG.
Death would simply be too easy for Sansa. Besides, if anyone kills her, she makes a pretty corpse. UGH.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates:
Tough call, seeing that I'm not active in this particular fandom. Let's see. It's not so much as hates, as ignores. Hodor. Nobody loves Hodor. Hodor reminds me of my brother, who has autism and aphasia. If my brother could speak, he'd say Hodor all the time. Hodor. Hodor.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer:
Catelyn Stark. I don't know. The first time I read the series, I found her likable, even if she treated Jon Snow badly for being her husband's bastard son. Yet now, upon re-reading... there's something distasteful about her. At so many points in the narrative, it's her selfish decisions that sets everything down the wrong, most twisted path. It's almost like a game of Blame the Woman: would all the Starks have been safe in Winterfell, if she didn't convince Ned to become the King's Hand?
(I realize that there wouldn't be much of a story if that had happened, but think of it another way: all the Starks fighting off the Others while the rest of Westeros is at war. Can you imagine Robert naming Stannis Hand of the King? Cersei would have tried to killhim instead. And you do not want Stannis striking back...)
6. The character I would shag anytime:
Bran Stark. But only in direwolf form.
7. The character I want to be like:
Arya. Because she's a fucking child assassin, that's why.
8. The character I'd slap:
CERSEI. Except if I slap her, she'd have one of her red cloaks cut my head off.
I almost forgot. I'd love to slap Lysa Arryn around too. Stupid bitch.
9. A pairing that I love:
I find it difficult to ship anyone in the series. As much as I dislike Sansa, Sandor obviously has a major thing for her.
I like the idea of Jon Snow with Daenerys. I know they haven't met in canon, I know it's probably going to end badly. But man. They share a lot of things in common. I hope they will at least meet in the future books.
Hmm. Maybe Genry and Arya? I find it sweet that he's very protective of her, and she's such a big tomboy she doesn't get it at all.
10. A pairing that I despise
J x C. I don't care if it's canon, it's SICK.
11. Favorite character:
It's a toss-up between Jon Snow and Bran Stark, with Arya coming in a close third.
12. My five favorite characters
Isn't this repetitious? Oh well: Jon, Bran, Arya, Tyrion, Daenerys.
Of lesser importance, but I like them too: almost all the Mormonts, Ser Davos, Meera Reed, Brienne of Tarth.
13. My five least favorite characters:
This is a hard one, there are so many characters that are easy to hate. Can I divide it by gender?
Least favorite females: Cersei, Lady Lysa, Sansa, Margaery Tyrell (she gets on my nerves), the Red Woman
Least favorite males: Lord Tywin, Lord Frey, Viserys Targaryen, Littlefinger, JOFFREY
14. Which character I am most like:
I think it depends on what day of the year it is, since I'm a moody person. I think I'll say Hot Pie.
15. My deep, dark fandom secret
If Jon Snow isn't played very well in the upcoming HBO series, I will be VERY DISAPPOINTED.
