I finally got around to reading chapters 304 and 305 of Bleach manga. I've been putting it off, really. Over the holidays, I wasn't in the mood for seeing Nemu being raped, be it literal or symbolic.
(
Are you ready for more intellectual meandering? )
And that's nothing compared to what happens later on in Berserk: in the flashback (manga only since anime suck and can't show the mature stuff), we learn the main character got sodomized as a child by a big black dude after his step-father sold him for the night; the protagonists' girlfriend gets raped by his best friend; there's a volume with a bunch of pagan orgies...I love Berserk. Its art is so amazing later on. Too bad the mangaka takes really long breaks between chapters now because of those insanely detailed drawings.
Oh, Shirou x Saber. I'm a big fan of Rin Tohsaka, a different girl, so I don't care much for that pairing (I am waiting impatiently for Mirror Moon to translate the second route of that game so I can see some Shirou x Rin). Oh, and that episode should be an anomaly and the only that's totally dedicated to romance.
As for its dub, I didn't have any problems with it though I only saw the first four episodes with it (the rest I downloaded). But I don't really care about the voice acting in the anime since the game > anime, and the game has no spoken dialogue.

Yeah, the near-rape scene in Hot Gimmick wasn't all that racy but for other reasons, Hot Gimmick makes me want to vomit. Hatsumi is one of the most worthless, spineless, unappealing female leads I have ever had the displeasure of reading. I couldn't stand her but I liked the side characters like Azusa and Shinogu. I just stopped reading after a while though, I couldn't stand Hatsumi's stupid passivity any longer.
I watched a few episodes of F/SN but I didn't like Shirou at all, I did like Rin, but never finished watching it.

Ha ha, isn't Hatsumi terrible? I first expected her to use Ryoki's virginity against him (when she learns of it near the beginning) and turn the tables on him, or to change at various points in the series, but no. If anything, she just becomes more pathetic. Orihime has got nothing on Hatsumi in terms of being a helpless female. At least Orihime has shined on one or two occasions.
Ah, but I can't see how you could like Azusa. Though Hatsumi is one dumbass bitch, setting someone up for a gangrape like that is rather unforgivable, in my books. After that chapter, I loathed him. Shinogo was all right, but I found him a bit too perfect and his love for Hatsumi made no sense (Okay, why every guy seemed to like her made no sense).
I liked Ryoki for a while...but then he became totally, unhealthily, insanely possessive of Hatsumi. While he always was a bit off the wall, I didn't mind him too much because I expected him to, I dunno...develop and gain some maturity. Apparently, expecting any logical character developments in Hot Gimmick was a mistake on my part.
At the the end of the day (Volume Ten, actually, as that's as far as I got), the only thing I liked in Hot Gimmick was the relationship between Hatsumi's slutty sister and that geeky guy. Yeah, seeing the geek get the girl always brings a smile to my geeky face.
Unfortunately for Shirou, the F/SN anime only covers the Fate route from the game--the route least flattering to his character. So, he never gets a chance to shine and be a badass, nor is the unbelievable plot twist about him quite revealed in the anime.

God, Hatsumi is so fucking worthless, she and Ryoki deserved eachother, he was such a possessive, angry, abusive, insecure loser. I love Orihime compared to Hatsumi, seriously, what kind of woman would write this kind of character?! Ugh, useless woman!
Yeah I was pretty turned-off Azusa at first but then his character did slowly reform and while I don't think what he did to Hatsumi is excusable I still can't help but like him. He was good at heart but just really messed up, I wish I could expand but it's been like years since I last read Hot Gimmick. I do have a tendency to like disagreeable men though, at least in fiction, I don't know if you've read NANA, but I adore Takumi, who also has questionable morals and a fairly cold and fucked up personality.
My affection for Shinogu probably comes from my "older brother" complex in which I like the "older brother" type characters, which is probably kind of disturbing for some, but I find that kind of reliability attractive ♥ He is a bit too perfect for my taste, like I said I do like disagreeable personalities, but I have a soft-spot for his type.
Ah, yes I liked the relationship between Subaru and Akane too but even that couldn't save this miserable series. I kept on reading at first in hope for some sort of progress in the other relationships but when I read the ending I was just disgusted and stopped buying them (I was reading the scans online and buying the graphic novels as they slowly came out)

Although I tend to label that type of character as Perfect House Husband, especially if there's an element of domestication. ♥
