The Ice Storm Cometh

Jan 15, 2007 08:05

We holed up all weekend in the turret house, nursing beers from the kegerator and eating pizza. The outside world is glare ice, covered with deceptively pleasant snow. We took the dogs for a run in the wetlands Sunday AM, and Beem nearly punched through the ice on the canal, leaving both of us in panic. How nice it would be to be a dog, oblivious to the dangers all around...

Today being MLK day, i get to lounge at home, and nest. Lots of tidying to do, a bit of revolution to foment, some gifts to mail. Feeling happy here in spite of the spector that we might have to move to the City later this season. I don't really want to move, but i will do what i am called to, for the preservation of the man. It might be nice to leave Lawrence behind--for such a short-timer, i've definately found the sour spots here. It's a pretentious place, full of holier-than-thou lefties and myopic conservatives wearing thousand dollar suits. It's boring, largly, and disengenuous. The idea of the city entertains--a little urban angst never hurt a girl, eh? The thrift store shopping would be a whole hell of a lot better.
