There have been a lot of good 1970s movies on lately that I've been watching. Well, they're not cinematic masterpieces, but they're still very entertaining. They were blockbusters at the time and had all the top stars.
Right now I'm watching Airport (which mum recommended I watch yesterday, funnily enough) and Dean Martin, George Kennedy (I ♥ George Kennedy), Burt Lancaster, Jacqueline Bisset and Lloyd Nolan (he was on Bonanza once!) It's about a guy who boards and airplane with a bomb in his briefcase with the intent of blowing himself up so his family will get the insurance money. He's foiled, still blows himself up midair, and they have to land the plane in the middle of a Chicago airport. And there's lots of Dean Martin awesomeness.
Two days ago was the Poseidon Adventure which everyone must watch! Gene Hackman before he was a star! Lloyd Nolan again! Ernest Borgnine! Leslie Nielson and Red Buttons, hee! The cruise ship is hit by a giant wave and 1400 people are killed when the ship rolls upside down. A few, led by Gene Hackman, head for the stern engine room to escape and they run into many obstacles. The highlight of the movie? Shelley Winters diving into the water to save Hackman and finding out that maybe she's not the "Women's Swimming Association champ anymore!" That is a great movie and I'm not sure if I want to see the new version.
Earthquake was also cheesy goodness. Lorne Greene, also known as Pa Cartwright of Bonanza fame! George Kennedy again! Charleton Heston, Ava Gardner, and more! There's a huge earthquake that they knew was coming but didn't warn anyone about. Then it happens and it's massive and makes the entire city collapse. Then the dam threatens to break and drown the entire town.
But the movie that beats all is The Towering Inferno. Look at this cast! Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Faye Dunaway, Robert Wagner, Robert Vaughn, Richard Chamberlain, Fred Astaire and OJ Simpson. Basically they build a giant glass skyscraper that's the tallest in the world until a fire starts on the 81s floor and the grand opening is going on in the promenade room on the 139th floor. Many daring rescues occur! One of my favourite movies of all time.
Go watch more 70s movies! Go! Shoo!
ETA:Airport 1975 is on now! That's not what I edited this for, but I can't remember what I was going to write...
