I need to get back into LJ! Grargh!

I'm finally home! Well, I got home on the 2nd and have finally toddled back to my sorely neglected journal. I flew into Toronto at 3:30, drove with my family for supper at my Grandma's and then finally got home around 10 pm. I didn't get to bed until about midnight (6am for me!). I had a couple of days to recuperate before I started back at the shoe store. Now it's 3 weeks later and I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow!!

News in point-form:
--> Sandy, my favourite and most loved co-worker, has finally moved away. She and her boyfriend, after 3 years, have decided to move in together in Windsor (his job doesn't permit him to move to this area, no work). I'm so happy for her. Her kids are grown and have moved out and she was going down to Windsor every weeked and then commuting the three hours to work on Tuesdays (crazy!) I'm absolutely crushed that I only had two weeks with her before she left.

We had a goodbye barbecue at my boss' house and the staff from 3 of our 4 stores were there. I took a ton of stealthy photos of Sandy and put them together in an album for her. I had some photos too of the store, our Croc wall (that's right, it's a whole freaking wall now), the Square (my downtown, view from the store) and then I put the photo of me on the Eiffel Tower at the back with "And a person who will miss you very much" beside it. We had a staff going-away dinner at a local restaurant with Me, Sandy, Tammy, my manager, Ashley (other student), D, L and L (former employees). It was hysterically funny recounting old moments of stupid and embarassment. Cheryl bought a beautiful mirror and we had all written messages on the back. I gave Sandy the album with a cheesy card.

Her parents had a going-away party at their place a town away from me. Since Sandy invited me, I drove out when I got off work at 8. I thought that since I didn't know anybody aside from Sandy, I'd be there for half an hour before leaving. Yeah, try midnight! I had so much fun and by the time I left, Sandy and I were in a much better mood and not weepy about her leaving. I'll definitely see her again, her whole family lives in this area and she loves it. But still, it depresses me that I don't get to see her at work every day.

--> I've sent off an e-mail to my housemates for next year and they sound awesome! I'm excited to move in, we just have to work out what I have to bring for the house.

--> I need to switch dentists. I had two little cavities filled today and one two weeks ago. They're between molars and filled with white stuff, so they're not noticeable, but I'm ticked off at my dentist for saying at my check-up three weeks ago that I had these cavities and that he'd noticed them forming at my last appointment (pre-France). Thanks alot for not telling me/dealing with them before! So I paid out $474 today for my fillings, luckily I'm still under my mum's dental plan!!

--> We have our house up for sale because it's become too much for my parents to keep up. We just replaced the roof, Dad re-did the whole kitchen, landing, and quite a bit of the bathroom. We have new carpeting in our rooms. And I think a couple more appliances are breaking down (replaced fridge, dishwasher and stove already.) They're putting a lot into the house to keep it up, property taxes are huge, and it's just too much. So they've found another house, still in town, that's being built by a construction friend of my dad. At first I was really upset, I've lived here all my life! But now I'm pretty excited about getting to re-decorate a new room.

The house is beautiful so far, Eric's put in beautiful cabinets and fixtures instead of cheaping out. We were hoping to have a closing date on our own house sometime around Sept 1st, so we could still have our house for the summer (pool!) and slowly move into the other house. But, Eric's been delayed with the house, so we get possession August 1st. No big deal. We got a call today and we suddenly have 4 different people interested in buying our house, so we have a potential August 1st closing date, and they may start a bidding war! I'm excited :)

--> So far I've been wearing my old Naots, but I've worn them so much that the arch supports gone and it felt like I was developing Morton's neuroma or something. So, I broke down yesterday and bought a new pair of Birkenstocks! Hey, if I'm going to buy more shoes, at least they're good for my feet and 50% off :D Sweeeet, sweet staff discount.

I really want a bowl of cereal. So much for point form, eh?

home, birkenstocks, work, pictures, random
