I've been on a bit of an LJ hiatus because last week I was on holidays. Yes, again. Just 3 weeks or so after my last vacation. This is the part of the French uni system I like :D I'm always so slow at uploading photos because my posts are often massive and it takes so long. Brargh! So, my moment of genius this evening was to do picture posts for each day of our trip, it'll be much easier.

greenwoj, dulcinea_lj, Jen and I made plans to go to Barcelona, Spain, and Lisbon, Portugal. We were flying Geneva-Barcelona, Barcelona-Lisbon, and Lisbon-Geneva, which was much cheaper and ridiculously quicker than any train (our usual mode of transportation). We hopped a quick train to Geneva with Amy, since she was flying home to England and wasn't coming on vacation with us this time. (She came to Amsterdam, Brussels and Luxembourg with us in January.)

The train which we thought was direct to Geneva was actually Chambery-Culoz-Geneva. And since our train was late getting into Culoz, we just missed our connection. Then we had to wait another hour for the next one to come pick us up. This meant that we got to the airport about 1/2 and hour or so after check-in opened, so we were boarding group C. But we like to be A! Doesn't make a difference, really, but it does add stress when you're hanging around just wanting to get there!

At the train station in Culoz just hanging around; Sally, me, Lauren and Amy.

Me, Sally, Jen the New Travel Buddy, and Lauren.

I don't know when the girls first spotted him, but holy cow, it's Colin Firth!
... Sort of. But you have to admit, it's uncanny.

How did we pass the time?

We played catch in the parking lot! A couple of weeks ago, Jen, Sally and I went for a hike up Les Charmettes. Whem we were coming down we started playing street hockey with sticks and clumps of snow while making Jen yell "Car!" in a Canadian accent. When they fell in the ditch, we'd go to find them but wound up swapping snow for an old thread spool. Eventually we found a really ratty, no-skin tennis ball in the ditch. Made playing interesting since it was all downhill... But anyways, Sally still had the ball so we played catch for 45 minutes! So entertaining, you don't even know. And in our shirts, no coats, while everyone else on the platform was bundled up and must have thought we were crazy.

Au revoir, Geneve! I love the Alps.

This was in the EasyJet magazine. I ♥ Robert Lindsay (Captain Pellew!) so much. I think he's hilarious on My Family, a British comedy with Zoe Wanamaker [Madame Hooch, HP] and Kris Marshall [Colin, Love Actually].

We're on the Aero-bus into town from the terminal when we see how hard it's starting to rain. And thunder. And lightning. We were lucky to land when we did!

Ugh, dreariness!

This is the view from our hostel room. The hostel itself was up quite a large hill/mountain, so later when it cleared up we had an amazing view right to the sea!

The hostel looked like it could have been a pretty cool mansion before it was changed over.

But their water smelled funny and made the bathroom stink. But the lobby's really cool.

When Lauren was in the shower, Sally had a genius idea!

Genius idea:

FORT!
Sally: I know what we should do! Build a fort!
Jen the English Girl: A fort?
Sally: A fort!
Jen: A fort?
Sally: Yeah, a fort!
Jen: A fort... Oh! You mean like a den?
*Sally and I look at each other O_o* I suppooooose....
We've learned so many British English words from Jen and Amy, it's wonderful.

For example, one of my favourites: Jen mentions something about cooking with a courgette.
Me: You call it a courgette? I thought it was just French.
Jen: No, we call them courgettes too. Why, what do you call them? *puzzled*
Me: A zucchini.
I felt silly saying it. It's one of those words like Zamboni and toonie. Crazy Canadians.

We even made up a password that Lauren had to guess in order to get in. We were trying to keep quiet so she would know what we were up to. It was actually ridiculously hard and we burst out laughing so many times. I had tears running down my cheeks.

Jen and I in the fort. We had a hysterical time the entire vacation teaching Jen how to say fort "properly". Fort fort fort fort fort fort fort... ok, now drop the T. Fort fort fort fort fort.

Just because it's made of blankets doesn't mean you don't have to come through the door.

Why I don't sleep on the bottom bunk: it only fits little people!

fort!, barcelona, holidays, pictures
