How I managed to gain yet another identity

As well as Lauren, laurenhat, robot flowerpot, and all the rest, I have unintentionally become Sara. or maybe Sarah. I don't know.

There's a new little greasy cafe place across the street from my house. I've been there a few times, once with imvfd. They always seem to know me, far more than I would expect given that I'm not really a regular ( Read more... )

There's one person here at Clark who thinks my name is Jonathan, and I've let her get away with it so long that it would be awkward to correct her. And Jonathan left Clark a couple years ago, so he won't be coming around to cause confusion.

Yeah, once I had ascertained for sure that she was calling me Sara, and that she was going to keep on doing so across multiple visits, I had let it go on way too long to correct her. Hopefully it doesn't get any more awkward, with her probing more into my class schedule and trying harder to inform me about the actual details of my life. :)

You should try to play along. See how long you can keep up the illusion that you're Sara -- which would be especially challenging since Sara is presumably coming in other times and telling them stuff. It would be a good exercise of your cold reading skills.

I read a story in a magazine years ago about a similar thing, a guy who kept encountering people who called him by the wrong names. Turned out he was one of a set of triplets who'd been separated at birth and adopted out to different families. Different friends and family members of the individual triplets kept encountering the others, with much confusion ensuing. Eventually, they were all reunited.

So are you adopted, Saren? Or is it Laurah? ;)

Ha! Oh, that's a great story. Wait, was this fiction? It seems way too good to be true...

Nope, 'twas a true story. Although there is another book I've read with a similar premise, called "The Third Twin". Good read, you should check it out.
