LOL! I'm nervous about my family reading my book, too. Unfortunately, even if I don't enable them myself, I'm pretty sure there's no way I'll be able to prevent them from picking it up at the bookstore. *sighs*
And I still have thoughts, when considering possible storylines, like but what will my parents think if they read that? :P
LOL! No way to keep them from buying their own copy. In the original version of Me in the Lost and Found, Noelani's dad falls overboard instead of Youssef. I had to change it because my dad freaked out.
Are there specific reasons why you might not want your dad to read it? If you feel like saying. I mean, having my family read my last book was easy. My next book, not so much, as it will contain critique of missionaries, something they're pretty much all committed to being/supporting. But my recent LJ entries are harder to have them read than possibly any book. And some of them will read it.
My dad tends to think every male character I write is based on him. And he's not thrilled about the topics I choose to write about. But my main reason for saying, "resist," is that a negative critique from a family member is the hardest to take (imo).

I think so much depends on your relationship with family members. I've gotten to where I expect very little from mine, so anything good is whipped cream and the bad, I let roll off me (most of the time), but there are certain areas that are minefields--mainly religion and sexuality (mine specifically).
