Some time ago, I promised to post about an agent I met at a conference.
So here's the scoop. Meet *drumroll* Chris Richman, a (relatively) new agent at Firebrand. He's funny, he's charming, he's talented, and he's hungry.
Here's his advice to writer's looking for an agent:
1. Submit your very best work. And be sure to get it critiqued first. And not by your best friend, either. Get critique from an enemy :)
2. Network. Meet other writers on forums and message boards online. Check out
www.querytracker.com 3. Research an agent before you submit to him or her. Chris likes twisty plots, unique characters, fantasy, funny books for boys, and contemporary YA. He doesn't want chicklit, picture books, vampires, or werewolves.
4. Spend a lot of effort on your pitch. That said, if you don't hook him with the pitch (these are murder to write!), you have a second chance to wow him when he reads your first two pages.
