Porch, Projects and Problems

I put together my brand new grill this afternoon. I don't have a photo because the one I took was really blurry, but it's the Weber Smokey Joe, the small one that's about 15 inches across or so. I'm really pleased - it's small but versatile. I might be able to figure out how to rig it up to smoke smallish things. I was going to go out to the porch ( Read more... )

Good heavens I absolutely love all your projects. The plants are lovely. Succulents! :O As for the Chives/Parsley: I've found Chives to grow very slowly in Florida, don't know why. I have managed to get them to bloom, though, which is lovely when it happens. They may require support to keep from falling over, if they get too long. As for Parsley, if it gets too hot, move it indoors; it grows like gangbusters during fall/winter/spring, and I've had some beautiful parsley plants, but they always get completely destroyed over the summer; they just wilt away.

May I suggest basil and/or tarragon? I've had lots of luck with both; they grow really, really fast, and are delicious.

Hm... as for the little alcove... all I can think of is hang a bunch of small-ish pictures, sort of a hodgepodge of different shapes and sizes, that you can cluster. I mean, a big piece of art might be too much for such a small space? Maybe you can hang a cute lamp from the ceiling? Though if the door opens in, that might be a problem...

I actually have a decent basil plant sitting indoors on my counter. And I don't think I've ever used tarragon, but I really should buy a thyme plant, not just sprout it. I use thyme quite a bit.

And yeah, no ceiling lamp. That would end in tears. There's already a nice light that's close to the ceiling and doesn't get maimed. I'm strongly considering doing this with the hall. I'd love to paint the wall dark blue first but I don't know how the paint pen would enjoy it.

It's really like a tiny room, and the stair width is less than the width of the little alcove, so there's a strip of wall that faces you when you walk in. I might be able to put a lamp there or maybe a long slim piece of art.

Wall decals? You can get lots of cool ones on etsy.com that don't look like ass at all.

I was also going to suggest wall decals, especially the repositional ones. I like to be able to change my mind.
