FX 2006: Embarrassing, to say the least.

Jan 30, 2006 14:11

Yesterday I went to FX 2006 and embarrassed myself thoroughly and took ridiculous pictures with Stanislav Ianevski, Summer Glau and Alan Tudyk, got winked at by David fucking Carradine, and gushed over Timothy Zahn.

Grant and I wandered around a bit, were amused by the booths, slightly freaked out by the people there, and then made our way to the guest area.

This is where I began freaking out. This is also the picture I took while on the phone with avelena, who was quite jealous. From the left, it's Tolga Safer, Stanislav Ianevski and Devon Murray, who's at the very end there in the white jacket.

Possibly the worst picture of myself I've ever seen in my life.

I got all my embarrassing stuttering and faux pas over with by talking to Stanislav, who, by the way, introduced himself as Stani. He was very, very attractive and charming. Grant, you will have to tell the story of what you observed in comments here. ETA: Hee!

The White Witch's wand and the sword of King Peter the Magnificent.

At this same booth, they had the fancy replica lightsabers for sale, but these ones aren't all fragile, oh no. So Grant and I had a fight. He had a red lightsaber and I had green. It was awesome. I want a lightsaber. A blue one.

And finally, Grant and I made our way back to the booths of the Really Cool People, also known as Summer Glau and Alan Tudyk.

Summer was very, very sweet. She really liked my shirt! She said Grant seemed very sweet, too. And my God, is she tiny. I mean, I thought I was tiny. Hell, I am tiny. And look at her next to me! So nice and professional, and she really is lovely.

LOVE. LOVELOVELOVE. When I stepped up there he was actually in the middle of texting Nathan Fillion and was saying "We thought we were going to miss you here, but Summer and I decided we're better off without you hogging all the attention..." I told him I'd been a fan of his since A Knight's Tale, which I have, because he was so fucking hilarious in it. Grant got a little more interaction with him than I did, but I did get to hear about his text message.

You will note that he is wearing jeans, and it was an excellent decision on his part.

David Carradine is such a fucking badass. This is the only picture I have of him because we were too scared to take a closer photo. It was so awesome; some guy dressed in full armor with like, spikes and skulls all over and a huge sword on his back was walking around the convention, and he walked over to David Carradine and took off his helmet, and David Carradine gave him the best WTF look ever. Armor-man walked off gleefully with David Carradine's autograph, staring at it the whole time. It was so funny.

So anyway, David Carradine = badass. We finally got the nerve to go up and talk to him and Grant said "I don't have any more money left, but I just wanted to say hello and shake your hand." "If it gives you pleasure," says the man who could kill us with a piece of paper, and shook Grant's hand. I shook the scary man's hand, too, and he fucking winked at me. Weirdest thirty seconds ever.

After that, I met Timothy Zahn. Timothy. Zahn. He who wrote the Heir to the Empire trilogy that was my childhood. I've loved those books since the fourth grade. He felt a lot more approachable because I had to wait for him as he went and got his picture taken with Alan Tudyk and Summer Glau and he "did the fanboy thing," as he said. I told him that I loved the Heir to the Empire trilogy and they were, in part, responsible for me going out and finding more EU novels to read and probably the reason I'm as big of a geek as I am today. He signed some bookplates for me to put in my books, OMG. Which means I need to actually buy Dark Force Rising and The Last Command, instead of just checking them out from the library like I've done since I was ickle and tiny. But I do have Heir to the Empire.

I mean, jesus. This was the man who created Mara Jade, back when she was still awesome. When she was the best new character ever. I have a Mara Jade action figure at home.

And then I took this photo of Devon Murray because I figured some of you would kill me if I didn't. Even though I'm really not a Seamus fan, mainly because Devon Murray looks too much like an asshat I went to school with.

So that was FX 2006.
