I have conquered seitan!

May 19, 2008 22:07

Being tired and restless, I endeavored today to make seitan! Or mian jing (麵筋) as it's called in Chinese/namafu (生麸) in Japanese. It was surprisingly easy, though the reactant to product ration was maybe something like 5:1. Not much gluten was had after things were done. It seems tastyish. Buwahahaha! If only I owned fields of wheat and knew how to mill flour...

Just look at those strands!!

Living in a city is weird. When climbing a mountainous rock in New Haven, it was startling to see that this lovely view that I strove for was only a sort of bird's eye view of urban sprawl dotted with parks. Not soo fascinating. There is a pretty

though. Hmm lilacs. So good smelling. When did lilacs last in dooryard bloom?

On a side note, I've decided that my landlady must fight prehistoric evil on a daily basis. There are strange marks
that look mysteriously like giant scorpions from the doom of time. Well, they're a bit small for true giant scorpions (~6 ft in length) but still rather crazy. I think I need more sleep.
