mom, stop it, i'll do it by myself

Well, I believe as of today my soccer team has won our division. We have one more game to go, but the coach said we could lose it and still win the division. So that's cool. I like to think I was able to contribute to that a little, even though, to be quite honest, I usually have no idea what I'm doing.

Let's see. Yesterday was the dreaded Dream Cruise. I, however, was able to avoid it completely: Lis and I left at noon to drive to Bensenville, Illinois (just west-ish of Chicago), to see a wizard rock concert: Draco and the Malfoys and Harry and the Potters. We were originally supposed to meet Sara out there, but she's lame--getting ready for her semester to start, unpacking, resting up. Lame.

The drive there was okay; we hit rain and a bit of traffic, but nothing too bad. The concert itself was, as expected, awesome. Brad (aka Draco year fifteen) was finally healthy (he was sick in Ann Arbor and ridiculously sick in Grand Rapids) and the Dracos' set was probably the best I've seen this summer. And they seemed amused that I knew the words to songs off their new album, which amused me. HatP were good, too. They did a couple songs I've not seen them do yet ("The Missing Arm of Viktor Krum" and...one more that I don't remember now). Lis wasn't stepped on, spit on, or sweat on, which made her happy.

After the show, we were able to talk with the band members (mostly to Brian, aka Draco year nineteen, who is the NICEST guy on, perhaps, the face of the planet). I can't get over how incredibly sweet and humble they all are, and how much they genuinely like each other. Good times.

Lis and I stuck around for as long as we possibly could, partly because it had taken so long to drive there we were not very excited to get back on the road to get back to the D. It rained almost the whole way home, which sucked. Then, within a mile from the House, I got pulled over by a cop. He was nice, though, and let me off without a ticket or anything.

In other news, I should be closing on my house toward the middle of the week. Whaaaa?? Yeah. Right. It's sheer insanity. I'm excited about it, but I'm also really kind of...sad. It's bittersweet, you know? But I do love that house.

Also, Thursday is my first day back at school (teacher meetings, et cetera). I'm looking forward to it, frankly.
