A/N: The idea came to me after eating a Japanese snack I had never had before and after trying to describe the taste to my sister this drabble was born. I don't know if these snacks are popular in Korea or not, so please forgive my snack ignorance. Let's pretend they're new for Jaebum and Taecyeon :)
Taec and Jay were sitting together on the living room couch late at night, unable to sleep. They were snacking and chatting. The T.V. was on but they weren’t paying attention to it, only using its soft glow as a light source as to not wake up the others. Jay was mostly lamenting about his insomnia when he realized that Taecyeon was not listening to him - in fact the only sounds coming from the younger man was crunching…
“Taec?”
…
“Taec?”
…
“Ok Taecyeon you giant perv cat! Why aren’t you paying attention to me? Aren’t I your most beloved leader?”
Taec slowly looked over to the fuming Jaebum - since when could he hit notes only dogs (and apparently giants) could hear?
“Calm down oh great leader. I’m sorry; I’m just really distracted by these new snacks I got.” Taec nodded down to the bag in his lap; his face showing confusion.
“Distracted by snacks? Who are you, Chansung?” Jay grabbed the bag and inspected it. It had Japanese writing on it, a yellow, green and pink very happy looking animated nuts - or jelly beans - since he has never seen nuts those colors so happy before. And the background consisted of puffy looking snack things about the size of popcorn - was that a wasabi pea? Jay reached into the personal sized snack bag and took about a couple of the snacks. He sucked on the salty coating of the orangey-red one, reminded of soy sauce and then bit into the treat. It was a rice cracker-like ball thing with a peanut center. It was delicious. He ate another one. It had a green covering, seaweed maybe, and the same rice crackery-nut combination. How did he not know of this snack before?
Taec had to grab the bag away from Jay before the little man devoured it all.
“Jay, I’m glad you like them and all, but that was not my problem. Yes they are enjoyable but I don’t know how to describe them…” that confused look came over his face once more.
“That’s easy, nuts covered in deliciousness.”
“That doesn’t really explain anything about its taste.”
“It is an experience that one has to come by on their own.” Jay tried to snatch the bag back from Taec’s paws but the larger man quickly pulled them away.
“How tired are you?” Taec surveyed Jaebum’s face for signs of fatigue and crazy.
“Shut up Taec and put your delicious covered nuts in my mouth!” Jay then pounced on the giant next to him and the struggle for the snacks ensued.
At the same time, Junho had heard some high pitched cries of distress coming from the living room. Chansung was with his family for the night and Wooyoung was bunking with Nichkhun - again - so it was neither of them. He then noticed that Jay, his roommate, was missing from his bed and thought it best to investigate. As he made his way to the living room he saw the glow of the television and could make out the shoulders and head of Taecyeon and just the top of Jay’s head. As he made his way closer he picked up some of their conversation:
“Shut up Taec and put your delicious covered nuts in my mouth!” Jay then pounced on Taec and Junho ran back to his room faster than he had in any episode of Dream Team. He hid under his covers and promised himself to never leave his room at night again.
