In no particular order:
5) Last night I watched (only ten years late) the 1999/2000 Britcom film Maybe Baby, starring Hugh Laurie, Joely Richardson, Teh MacFadyen (as a shouty, pompous BBC controller), Adrian Lester, Tom Hollander et al, including cameos by Emma Thompson as a crazy New Age friend and Rowan Atkinson as a gynecologist. With that cast, how could it go wrong? Well....
Let me put it this way. Ben Elton wrote and directed this film in what seemed like an attempt to match his old Blackadder writing partner Richard Curtis, and when I ejected the DVD, I went to my copy of Henry James' The Sacred Fount and read again the last two lines:
I *should* certainly never again, on the spot, quite hang together, even though it wasn't really that I hadn't three times her method. What I too fatally lacked was her tone.
That was the problem, right there.
4) Lemon slices in ice water, lots and lots of both.
3) As I was struggling with the current writing project yestereve, I stumbled on what I think is actually the Right Theme to guide me in my rewrite. (This is, I believe, the hundred-and-eighth Right Theme I've tried. [kicks self])
2) I have so many books in my To Be Read pile that I'm building myself a castle with them. The crenellations are especially nice.
1) Isn't 'crenellation' a cool word? Also, 'savant.' Also, 'permafrost.'
May your weekend be full of cool words and pitched at just the right tone!
