1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
finished college.

2. Did you keep your New Years resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't keep it, if I remember it correctly, and I have three or four for 2009.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not anyone super close. A couple acquaintances, I think.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
a childhood friend.

5. What countries did you visit?
oh Gosh. France. Trinidad & Tobago. Ecuador. Peru. Chile. More of the US than I'd seen before. AND I STILL HAVEN'T BEEN TO CANADA.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
success (more, anyway). Personal success would be great. Sanity would be ideal. Love would be nice, but would most likely be a bad decision.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory and why?
hm. January 1st I was in Europe for the first time. August 16th, it needed to happen. September 16th, I left the country again. October 20th, I started my first 9-5. December 25th, my first Christmas without my family.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Learning more about myself (however, not enough), and getting a "real" job.

9. What was your biggest failure?
eh. I won't dwell on it.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
only emotionally, except for a couple drunk scrapes and some bouts with the common cold.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
my plane ticket to South America.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
hmm I'd have to say Mine and Cameron's, in South America.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
too many people's.

14. Where did most of your money go?
traveling, drinking, shopping, eating, transporting. in that order.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My thesis and traveling.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
hmmm that is a tough one. "incomplete" i think, from flavors of entanglement.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
haha i am happier but for a sad reason.

ii. thinner or fatter? I'd say thinner after backpacking.
iii. richer or poorer? blegh, poorer. happier, though.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
thinking.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
worrying. self-loathing.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I woke up late, watched TV, napped, had Chinese for dinner.

22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
I was in love with 2008 started, and I was in love when 2009 started. Don't be jealous, though.

23. How many one night stands?
couldn't tell you. maybe a few?

24. What was your favorite TV program(s)?
30 rock, grey's, arrested development (I watched all three seasons in 2008 in one weekend), and coughgossipgirlcough.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
umm...no, i don't.

26. What was the best book you read?
The Reader, by Bernard Schlink. Although, The Road by Cormac McCarthy is a close second and Revolutionary Road is up there too. Oh and I had a ton of fun with the Twilight series, despite what anybody says about it. no shame.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
hmmm Lady Gaga. I mean that.

28. What did you want and got?
to travel somewhere where I'd never been, never thought about or dreamt of going.

29. What did you want and not get?
too many things, and one specific person.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
wow. Dark Knight, Loved The Reader and Revolutionary Road (redundant, I know, but I love Kate Winslet).

31. What did you do on your birthday?
I was slightly hungover in Ecuador. Cameron and I went to dinner.

32. What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
hmm. I wish I hadn't been robbed.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
I stopped caring so much after backpacking and living off of such a small wardrobe, but now I'm back. I found out that people enjoyed the way I dressed before they knew me. I started taking more risks and they paid off.

34. What kept you sane?
my friends putting up with me, and my parents, and being able to get out of New York once in awhile.

35. Which celebrity did you fancy the most?
I only have eyes for Kate.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
prop 8 passing in California, and the other anti-gay bills that passed in like Arizona and Florida and Arkansas. It's just troubling. In 50 years, I think the children and grandchildren of the people who voted yes on those issues will be ashamed, and will think, "really, we were that ignorant and intolerant?"

37. Who did you miss?
everybody knows who I missed. and I missed my parents. i missed Steph and I still do. I became strangely nostalgic about all of my best friends from high school, actually.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Oh, there were too many. Most recently, I loved all the people I met in Oregon. Can't get over how cool they were.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
Everybody else knows it, but I just learned it in 2008: Make yourself happy.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"think how happy we can be when we just try"

2008
