Memorial Day Adventure Day 4, Part 7 - Conway part 1

Aug 05, 2007 12:33

A nasty critter was just dispatched in my house. I saw it the other day, crawling across my desk. At first I thought it was a large ant, but it had a big butt, and it flew away. Scared the hell out of me! I couldn't tell if it was a flying ant, or some kind of wasp. Evil, at any rate. I assumed it was dead, cause that was days ago, but today Peanut pointed it out as it sauntered around over by some Legos. We can't have it going around potentially stinging Peanut, so I smashed it with the latest issue of Smithsonian, which I don't even know why we get.

Anway, back to the Memorial Day thing, next we went to a real gem of a little almost-ghost town named Conway. It was so cute! I don't feel like we explored it as thouroughly as we could have, but we were trying to get home. And its not far from Grand Forks, so I could always go back some time!

mystery building. this had to have been a church or Masonic lodge. I'm leaning toward Masonic (or other) lodge, because churches usually have a steeple and cross on top. This building had four things stuck to the top. See the top part of the facade where there are four marks? Yep. Probably four Masonic symbols. I know what you're thinking, "you wish everything was an abandoned Masonic Temple!" But that's not entirely true! Just mostly true...

I couldn't get in, but I did get this peek in the window with my camera (window was too high for me to actually see in though). They might still use the building as a church or community center.

there was this bizarre brick cube for no apparent reason.

It had a pretty door frame. Inside was nothing. I got a picture but it was so boring I tossed it. Just a teeny tiny square room. I wonder if it used to be a bank vault or something, and was part of a larger structure. Or if someone just built a tiny little brick cube. The door frame just seems so nice for a storage unit! We may never know.
