Ok, now that I kind of have internet, I can do a quick update. Life has been very exciting, ever since May. I finished my thesis (34 pages plus endnotes = 38), took my final final exam ever, graduated, and slept. The next day my parents left, Heikki showed up for a visit, all the way from Finland, and then the day after was my birthday. Then we went on a crazy 3 week vacation, covering as much ground of the US as possible (I doubt any of Heikki's friends can claim to have seen as much as he has seen), hitting up Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Canada, California, Boston, New York, and Washington DC. We couch surfed for almost all of it, which he actually kind of enjoyed, surprisingly enough, and even got a chance to go sky diving. It was fun, but really exhausting, not to mention I got sick twice...but we both agreed New York is a great city, and hopefully I can go back someday....
Then family reunion in Lexington Virginia, which ended up being extremely fun, with tons of people I had never met before. We all toured around checking out Stonewall Jackson stuff (he's a general from the Civil War that we're related to...), and found out all the weird crazy stuff about him (he liked to suck on lemons and was paranoid about his health). But its a big deal for our family, a sense of southern confederate pride, which I don't understand, being from California....
Next, dad and I spent a day in New York with his friend steve and his boyfriend on a sailboat. The best moment ever, seeing my dad hanging out with gay guys, watching the Oscars.
Then Iceland, to visit my Mom's good friend Jon from her Stanford days. I absolutely loved his stories about Iceland, and loved his country...tempted to live there.
Then England to visit my wonderful friend Frankie and her family again. I got to see her apartment in Birmingham, and hung out with her and her boy. They are so adorable, it kills.
Then I made it to Milan, and got back to the girls. It's funny how a year can make such a difference in how people grow up, mature. this summer has been much easier, and we are for the most part getting along very well. We also went on a great trip to Croatia on their 60 foot boat. Yup, life is good. Now we're off to the mountains soon.
Everything would be great, except I can't seem to get a visa to work for next year in Reunion.... trust me, you don't want to know the details. More to follow.
