The lyrics to Rihanna's latest single "S&M" contain this repeated verse:
Cause I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it
Sex in the air, I don't care, I love the smell of it
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But chains and whips excite me.
Seriously? This is on the radio? This is horrible! I mean, the tune is catchy, but first of all, when it gets to the "Sex in the air, I don't care, I love the smell of it" makes me think incredibly inappropriate smells, and a mental picture of her stradding and sexually riding a guy chained to the bed. And this happens multiple verses. It's actually really gross and I can't get the smell of Rihanna having sex with some guy out of my head.
But the worst part is that LITTLE KIDS ARE GOING TO BE SINGING THIS. Getting this tune in their heads and singing this at schools. I don't understand how they can censor "bad words" like fuck and cunt and shit, but it's okay to talk about "Sex in the air, I don't care, I love the smell of it"?
Argh so wrong. So gross. Rihanna, I could potentially have been a fan if you didn't include that god awful wording. But that lyric in itself is -the- reason why I don't want to download your song. I don't want to hear that verse. It actually makes me feel a little physically grossed out. But congratulations, Rihanna, you're the first artist to gross me out over the radio.
I think this is the music industry's latest trend, though. After listening to Katy Perry's "E.T." lyrics, I was also very bothered by that as well because it's basically her singing about beastiality/alien sex:
Boy, you're an alien
Your touch are foreign
It's supernatural
Extraterrestrial
I wanna walk on your wave length
And be there when you vibrate
For you I'll risk it all
Kiss me, ki-ki-kiss me
Infect me with your love and
Fill me with your poison
Take me, ta-ta-take me
Wanna be a victim
Ready for abduction
And Kanye West adding some rap(e) to it:
Tell me what’s next, alien sex
I’ma disrobe you, than I’mma probe you
See I abducted you, so I tell ya what to do.
Gosh... kids are going to be singing this too. Music industry, what's happened to you?
