Love on the verge of life
(Comment on the 9th BSG episode "The Hub")
Laura is in love. But she needed to reach the bottom before finally gets the courage to admit it. Somewhere… during the path of The President, The leader and the prophet, she abandoned the woman. Now it is time to find her again. Love is revealed through death. Life is revealed through death. Because life and love are inseparable. Truth old as the world. Some people think the way to this revelation is simple. Another- that it is complicate. Whatever it is, I know it was necessary. For Laura, for Bill, for everyone who has even once feared to feel… to choose to feel… Because Laura’s feelings have been there since the beginning, growing and blossoming under the hard sircumstances of a war. And while the humanity waged a war against the cylons, Laura chose to begin a war against herself, denying and hiding the last thing, separating her from the cylons- the ability to feel, to love. The sound of a beating heart accompanies the truth... two hearts, beating like one...
That breathless, exhausted, vulnerable “I love you” is her greatest defeat… defeat from herself. In this defeat Laura won everything. On the verge of her strength, on the verge of life, on the verge of universe one confession gives a second chance to two people who need it desperately. And then Bill does the only possible thing- he closes his eyes and holds her a few more seconds in his arms. There is no need to hurry, they have time now. Her confession bought them all the time in the world. And when finally he faces the woman he loves, his eyes are full with happiness, sadness and hope… “about time”, yes. Laura’s greatest defeat has become their greatest victory. It is so much easier to fight the feelings… it is so much easier to hide behind the chaos of the war. They choose to find peace. Even for a minute… before the storm arises again. But then they will be ready. One fierce hug, full of relief- love is accepted, life starts again.
