Back in the days when I was young I'm not a kid anymore but some days I sit & wish I was a kid again
I went to my old high school’s spring vocal concert last night with Joey. We met up with Chelsea and her friend James there. Overall, I’d say it was a good concert. Those who sang well sang really well and those who didn’t.. really didn’t. I liked concert choir and vocal ensemble (V.E.) a bunch but chorus has to kinda ruin things.. as always.. 4.. maybe 5.. of the songs I had sung in the choirs before. Using our old repertoire.. hmmph.. We did the songs better back in the day.. (Your’re thinking “Of course she’s going to say that.. SHE was in the choir back then..”) but really, our “Build Me Up Buttercup” had dance moves back then! Good dance moves! And apparently Chelsea and I weren’t the only ones in the crowd who remembered those old dance moves.. I know Melanie, Danielle and Alison were dancing too! Ahhh the memories..
Seeing Mr. O (Mr. Olsen) up there conducting brought back memories of tons of concerts.. especially those touring in V.E. I would see Mr. O in 4th hour for concert choir, 5th hour for V.E. and then more after school for either concerts touring or during play rehearsals (he worked on the set and sound). As you might guess, choir and fellow actors/actresses were pretty much who I talked to the most in high school.. like family. So when Mr. O said ‘Laura!’ and hugged me I lost it and started to cry..
Ok, actually I started to cry when the alumni got up to sing with all the choirs on stage. It’s tradition that at all spring concerts, alumni come up and sing the last 2 traditional songs with the choirs. Yeah, I cried a little then too.. and Joey saw me tapping my foot from the audience (something that Mr. O used to point out to me). While singing, I stood next to a graduating senior, Stephanie Leon, who cried when I graduated, calling me her “favorite senior”. She cried onstage saying how great it was to hear my voice in her ear again. It’s weird how we have people we look up to.. then without realizing it, you become someone that others look up to. She’s a great girl.. and she’s going to the same college as me! Maybe we’ll see each other there. :)
I also got to talk with/saw alumni like R.J., Kristen, Melanie, Alison, Danielle, Steve, Vince, Kim, Josh (who’s engaged!), Sara, Katie, and more that I can’t think of right now!
I miss choir and plays..
I walked with Joey around my old school.. Some things have changed, some haven’t.
Oh and I voted and got through 6 times..
for Carrie Underwood who won American Idol! Woopie!
So, besides all the craziness that’s going on in my house right now, I’m doing great. The other day sucked and I cried a bunch about my sister’s (ex?) boyfriend who will probably be moving back in sometime really soon.. but my hero got me flowers and had dinner ready when I got there. He’s too great to me. Almost 11 months..
Today I have class. I blew the end of the exam during the last class and hated myself afterward.. We’ll see how I did on it today. :-/
