Picspam: Best of the Red Carpet in 2009

Dec 27, 2009 22:18

The year 2009 has been an interesting year fashion wise. Here are my top looks each month, my thoughts, and my pick for the best look each month.

January 2009
Jennifer Morrison in Oscar de la Renta- The shiny blue is what makes this dress so eye-catching. The detail on the dress make it very figure-flattering for Jennifer.
Michelle Obama in Jason Wu- This dress is so elegant and memorable for such a memorable occasion. And Michelle really put Jason Wu on the map. This look was simply stunning.
Kate Winslet in Narciso Rodriguez- Again, the blue is killing me here. And bless Kate for wearing a dress that hugs her curves in just the right way. Kate is a D.I.V.A. in this look.
Evan Rachel Wood in Monique Lhuillier- The green gown, red hair combo is a knock-out. The eagle broach could look tacky, but Evan's working it. I love the red fingers. Hair, make-up, jewelry, accessories all work.
Anne Hathaway in Azzaro- Grecian goddess with the appropriate amount of glam. This look works for Anne's height and build. Magnifique.
Look of the Month: Evan Rachel Wood in Monique Lhuillier

February 2009
Jennifer Connelly in Balmain- This dress is a great combo of elegant and edgy. The green, the sparkles, the shoulders. All the details of this dress make it amazing.
Amy Adams in RM by Roland Mouret- I love the shoulder folded down on Amy. The length adds an interesting component to this dress. It's beautifully constructed.
Angelina Jolie in Armani Prive- It's not like Ms. Jolie to add more color to a dress, but boy am I glad she did it here. The pop of yellow takes a nice black dress and gives it a pop of wow. One of the few looks Angelina wore this year that I liked.
Katy Perry in Basil Soda- The soft pink, necline, and beautiful piece in the middle are killing me. I'm floored not only by the beauty of the dress but by also how it's very much Katy but not tacky or over the top.
Natalie Portman in Rodarte- The color could very easily look too Barbie, but Natalie has the edge to show off the beautiful detail of this dress. It looks so glamorous on her.
Look of the Month: Katy Perry in Basil Soda

March 2009
Diane Kruger in Yves Saint Laurent- The bodice has so much magnificent detail it's unbelievable. The contrast between the bodice and the blue of the dress makes the dress pop. This dress really works on Diane.
Kim Kardashian in Zuhair Murad- The nave color and draping make this gown so elegant. There's still some Kardashian sex appeal, but there's enough elegance that it's not over the top. The draping over the neckline is my favorite part of the look.
Penelope Cruz in L'Wren Scott- This black, tight, sparkly number works perfectly on Penelope. This dress looks great with Penelope's skin.
Reese Witherspoon in Rodarte- Reese can really work a short dress, and this Rodarte piece has 'that' wow factor to it. I love the pop of green in the dress.
Blake Lively in Diane von Furstenberg- This could very easily be just another short dress. But the color and subtle detail on this dress plus Blake working the hell out of it make it fierce.
Look of the Month: Diane Kruger in Yves Saint Laurent

April 2009
Taylor Swift in Angel Sanchez- This dress makes Taylor look so beautiful and elegant. It's not overly blinged out, and it doesn't look too promy. This dress could easily swallow a woman, but Taylor's height is perfect for the dress.
Drew Barrymore in Andrew Gn- This dress is a flowy kind of beauty. The one detail, the neckline, is the part I love most about this dress. The contrast between the neckline and the rest of the dress and Drew's hair and body works. Drew's hair is perfect for the look.
Zoe Saldana in Prabal Gurung- The red, the shoulder, the bottom: all look gorgeous on Zoe. She's had an edgy but gorgeous fashion year, and this is a perfect example of this.
Beyonce in Elie Saab- The blue on Beyonce's skin is gorgeous. And the dress hugs Beyonce's curves perfectly.
Lynn Collins in Malandrino- Lynn was the only female star in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and she did not disappoint. The yellow was perfect for the April premiere, and the neckline made the dress different.
Look of the Month: Drew Barrymore in Andrew Gn

May 2009
Blake Lively in Versace- Not many can work the boobs out and leg slit combo quite like Blake. The color and curves all work on Blake. But I think the sleeve is the secret weapon of this dress as it highlights the beautiful asymmetry of the dress.
Mariska Hargitay in Carolina Herrera- I love how this dress doesn't scream "I've got curves!" but is still gorgeous. The floral appliques on this dress are beautiful, and she knows how to choose which Carolina Herrera dress to wear so much better than Renee Zellweger.
Eva Longoria-Parker in Atelier Versace- On such a small person, this gown could very easily be a disaster. But Eva manages to make it work. It looks like the work of art that it is on Eva. I love her hair style.
Penelope Cruz in Marchesa- The lilac makes Penelope look like the goddess she is. The woman can't look ugly, but she takes gorgeous to another level in this dress.
Kerry Washington in Zuhair Murad- The exaggerated mermaid is beautiful. The print is great. And Kerry's workin' it. Perfection.
Look of the Month: Kerry Washington in Zuhair Murad

June 2009
Amanda Seyfried in Peter Pilotto- I love the print, the shoulders, and the draping of this dress. And blonde hair with this dress works so well.
Megan Fox in Donna Karan- Elegance but with a touch of sexy that makes the dress Megan Fox. The purple, the leg, the draping. It's all working beautifully on making.
Jennifer Aniston in Prada- I love the gold so much more than the runway black. On a curvier person, this dress could be very slutty. But Jen makes it look very chic.
Minka Kelly in Christian Dior- This dress is whimsical chic. I like that Minka kept the runway heels, and I'm extremely glad she didn't use the runway belt. This is a nice, fresh blusson look.
Marion Cotillard in Elie Saab- She looks so ladylike in the dress. The high neckline and the hair make Marion look so sophisticated. The blue in this dress is beautiful.
Look of the Month: Megan Fox in Donna Karan

July 2009
Emma Watson in Vintage Ossie Clark- The empire waist looks gorgeous on Emma. The length is great. And the print gives it the vintage fab look.
Katherine Heigl in Reem Acra- That blue was my favorite color of the year. The belted waist that brings the draping in gives the look great structure.
Lindsay Price in Dolce & Gabbana- The blue and orange looks gorgeous together and gives the look a very summery feel. I like the belt to give some fit to the look.
Diane Kruger in Herve Leger by Max Azria- Diane makes me love Herve Leger, where as I usually don't. The shoulders give the look edge. The lips give the look some Old Hollywood glamour.
Amy Adams in Carolina Herrera- The neckline and shoulders give the dress an interesting twist. The red hair works so well with the black and white. And the print softens the look so much.
Look of the Month: Emma Watson in Vintage Ossie Clark

August 2009
Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Blumarine- The aqua color, the rouching, and the leg shown all make this dress lust-worthy. Gold accessories complete the look.
Leighton Meester in Louis Vuitton- The black and white combo with the pop of red never gets old. The belt and the different directions of the stripes gives this look an edge and highlights the body more. The red shoes are my favorite part of the look.
Diane Kruger in Atelier Versace- This dress could very easily look gladiatorish. But Diane highlights the femininity of the look. The detail of the dress is exquisite.
Ashlee Simpson-Wentz in Jill Stuart- In an uncommon move, Ashlee looks very pretty. The red hair works perfectly with the dress, and I love the hair-do. Mrs. Wentz's choice of pearls is perfect for this dress.
Katie Cassidy in Brian Lichtenberg- The blue sparkles manage to give the look an edge. Katie's working the one-shoulder. And the hair and make-up go perfectly with the dress.
Look of the Month: Ashlee Simpson-Wentz in Jill Stuart

September 2009
Taylor Swift in Kaufman Franco- It's sparkly, which is getting a little old on Taylor. But it has a glamorous feel to it, and I love the red lips with the dress.
Leighton Meester in Christian Cota- This dress has so many exquisite details to it. The petal sleeves look awesome, and I'm swooning over the shoes.
January Jones in Atelier Versace- January marries the hardness of the corset with the softness of the bottom. There were very few looks I liked at the event, and January's was one of my faves.
Christina Applegate in Basil Soda- This is one of the other looks I liked from the Emmy's. There's a lot going on in this dress, but Christina makes it all work. The blue with the details is so exquisite.
Emma Watson in Burberry Prorsum- The gold is amazing on Emma. And the belt makes the gold pop. She looks so high fashion for a girl of such a young age.
Look of the Month: Christina Applegate in Basil Soda

October 2009
Iman in Donna Karan- Iman looks stellar in this sparkly gown. The color looks great with Iman's skin and hair. There's not a lot I can say; this dress speaks for itself.
Blake Lively in Marchesa- The flowered shoulder is beautiful. It gives the top half some softness. The bottom is a nice change of pace as it's not a leg slit. Blake looks lovely.
Diane Kruger in Balenciaga- No matter how many times I see that blue, it never gets old. The modified version Diane wore works so much better than the runway.
Hilary Swank in Vionnet- The draping and length highlights Hilary's height. Her hair and jewelry works so well with the dress. Hilary looks like a goddess.
Anne Hathaway in March Jacobs- From far away, the color pop at the bottom doesn't appear to have a lot of detail. But up close, it's so detailed. I love the youthful vibe of this dress, as Anne is young.
Look of the Month: Hilary Swank in Vionnet

November 2009
Leighton Meester in Prabal Gurung- Leighton took the best parts of two awesome dresses and made it into one gorgeous look. And I absolutely love the shoes she wore.
Camilla Belle in Alexander McQueen- McQueen's collection has been one of my faves, and Camilla shows why. It's edgy, sophisticate, hip, feminine, young, and fabulous all at the same time. This look just works.
Kristen Bell in Tibi- Again, with the black and white with a pop of red. And again it's oh so right. The print is bold but not tacky, and the red lips give the look sophistication.
Rose McGowan in Donna Karan- The folds on this dress make it very chic. The red is awesome. The belt is great at separating the folds on the top from the folds below.
Rihanna in Marchesa- This dress is not for everyone, but Rihanna pulls it off. The white underneath keeps the dress from looking too gothic. I love the flower cut-outs.
Look of the Month: Kristen Bell in Tibi

December 2009
Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace- The white softens the rock and roll look of the top. The detail on the bottom is very elegant. I'm in love with those shoes.
Zoe Saldana in RM by Roland Mouret- The mermaid and shoulders give this look a very chic vibe. The silver is perfect for the strong structure of the dress.
Penelope Cruz in Chanel Couture- The red looks electric on Penelope. The draping compliments her figure so much. The hair and jewels are so lovely.
Blake Lively in Dolce & Gabbana- This lace number could very easily look like lingerie, but Blake gives it that red carpet edge. It has the boobs and legs that Blake loves, but it looks so glamourous still.
Dita Von Teese in Alexander McQueen- I won't say anything about the blue as I'm sure you know my thougts. This look is so Dita. It's high fashion but still has a touch of unique. With Dita's hair, skin, and make-up, it has an Asian feel to it.
Look of the Month: Zoe Saldana in RM by Roland Mouret
