Yello!
I tutored for 6.5 hours on Sunday and 1.5 today. I love tutoring. For the dyslexic kid who I tutor grade 10 science, I ran around coloured pillows to teach magnetism. I also drew diagrams and made many gesticulations. The mother was surprised how long her daughter was able to focus on science (well I guess it's not as hard if their tutor is acting nutzo hehehe).
Today I talked philosophically, with the student I was tutoring magnetism, about entropy (you know how I can go on tangents...this person seems to like and appreciate these diversions).
I work hard to foster thinking. I try to enlighten the text and do lots of repetition, problem-solving and conceptual teaching (I don't give my students the answer until they more-or-less understand the related section).
I guess this approach is effective...I was recommended by one of my clients and then by another one....my number of clients went from one to four in 3 days!
Anyways, I have a chem lab tommorow...which I should ZZZZZzzz for! Oh and I have a research opportunity (my old organic chem prof and my mentor from the botanical garden are willing to let me help them on a project!) that I need to be bright-eyed and brushy tailed for!
