Someone brought this website to my attention, I'm sure many of you have heard about this by now but I want to know your opinion. Using my "superior" common sense I'm able to tell much of this is taken out of context and misrepresented ( Read more... )

Posting here to be semi-brief and negate the potential for misquoting.

I moved on from Summitview because the very strong advice I was receiving about my life direction didn't jive with where God is leading me--BUT, it was well-intentioned advice from people who genuinely believed it was what I needed to hear. And had I been planning to live in Fort Collins for the rest of my life rather than a third-world country, it would have been very applicable. But I'm not, and like every other white church in Fort Collins, there is a lack of understanding of the acute crises in black countries, namely the entire continent of Africa. This is not deliberate/manipulated/brainwashing/domination or otherwise; I merely am headed for a life that Summitview is far removed from and does not understand well enough to guide. Not that they don't still love me (I hung out with the group tonight) or keep tabs on what I'm doing. I just needed a more third-world-oriented source of discipleship than 99% of the churches in Fort Collins provide. (Hence, I now attend a black church, perhaps the only one in the city.) Would I like leadership to have been more "individualized" in their dispensing of advice, and realize that not everyone is destined to live out their life in a quiet little town like Fort Collins? Yes. And in that, I think there is value to some constructive criticism because advice was applied to my life that was irrelevant or contradictory.
However, I know the heart is sincere, the pastors willingly admit wrongdoings (several have apologized from the pulpit for minor infractions most people never even noticed), and this is not a domineering church. How do I know this? Because I have been in a domineering, insincere, unapologetic church. I cannot describe the years (years, not months) I battled to right wrongs there and the revenge that was meted out on me. And Summitview is the opposite of that in every way you can imagine--this very fact is what led me to go there, and has not changed since I left.

I'd like to know more. This is strong testimony from which I cannot detract. Could you describe the situation more fully in the previous church or identify the denomination and location? Which minor infractions received apology from the pulpit? Approximate dates would also be helpful. If Summitview was more inclined to support your calling, would you be inclined to return? How are things at Abyssinian (I'm making an assumption)? I met one of their ministers--she definitely impressed me.
